Good Times @ EPE
May 2nd 2024
Huge Thank You
Firstly, I wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone for the warm welcome to EPE. It truly is an unbelievable school - full of love, life and learning. It is also blessed with an exceptionally supportive community and amazing adults to help grow our children.
That was demonstrated so clearly by our recent fundraiser which generated almost $16,000 for the school. This money will be used to ensure that EPE continues to be a state of the art learning facility, and that our students have all of the resources that they need to succeed. Monies will be spent on repairing and upgrading our interactive whiteboards and Technology, enhancing our Literacy Resources and continued development of our outdoor space (particularly Guy's Garden) at the school.
We cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support as we continue to ensure that EPE is an amazing place to live and learn. We truly have the most amazing community.

Family Day @ EPE
Wednesday, May 15th is the International Day of Family. As such we are so excited to take the time to celebrate the adults that care for our learners each and every day!
It is so important to note that families are wonderfully diverse, and comprise all of the people who take care of us at home. The many different family types that exist within our community are part of the diversity that makes us stronger as a community, and celebrate those who look after us and love us.
We are also excited to have the Foster Families Association in to discuss diversity of families, along with lots of great activities!
Student Leadership @ EPE
As part of our School Development “Developing Leaders” Goal, we are pleased to continue growing our student leadership opportunities.
We have been so thankful for the help of students with our Breakfast Club, Bus
Dismissal, Assemblies, Early Morning Greeters, and prefecting.
Leadership roles build strong connections to the school community, and allow our students to develop the skills that allow them to be effective citizens!
Kinderstart Information
Welcome to the KinderStart/Kindergarten registration page. You may be asking, am I registering for KinderStart or Kindergarten? The answer is BOTH! When you register your child for Kindergarten, you are registering for KinderStart during the 2024/25 school year and Kindergarten the following September.
Children must be five (5) years of age on or before December 31, 2025 in order to register.
Eligibility Calculator
When registration starts, the visual at right is how the initial registration page will appear (click to open preview PDF of the form). This is NOT the actual form to fill out, it is only a sample of the actual form for your convenience). If you are registering twins, there will be an option on the second page for you to continue to register a second child.

**** REGISTRATION DATES AND TIMES ****
Online Registration for Kinderstart(2024)/Kindergarten(2025) will get underway May, 2024 for both the English and Early French Immersion programs, as per the NLSchools' School Zoning, Student Registration and Transfers (PROG-311) policy. The registration dates are outlined below:
- Starting Wednesday, May 8 @ 9:00 AM and ending on Thursday, May 9 @ 9:00 PM for Families of Schools 7-10 (formerly Avalon Region, including the St. John's Metro area); and
- Starting Monday, May 13 @ 9:00 AM and ending on Tuesday, May 14 @ 9:00 PM for Families of Schools 1-6 (formerly Central Western and Labrador regions).
EARLY FRENCH IMMERSION
The French Immersion program is designed for non-francophone children. Families interested in registering a child for the French Immersion Kindergarten Program must select their zoned school. If Early French Immersion is not offered in the zoned school, families must select the school closest to their residence which offers Early French Immersion (EFI).
Early French Immersion Kindergarten registration takes place on a first-come first served basis for a limited number of seats. This applies to all areas of the province however, it is dependent on the number of families who have registered. Applications will be dated and time-stamped upon submission. All students are entitled to a program in English - if your child is waitlisted for EFI at a school outside your zone, space will be held at the school within your zone for the English program.
Families will be provided with further information once class lists for EFI are finalized in the new school year.
- More information about the Early French Immersion Program can be found here.
- Schools offering the Early French Immersion Program can be found here.

- Additionally, an presentation is available for review.
S.O.A.R Food Drive
Thursday, May 9 marks 11 years for the Annual S.O.A.R. Birthday Celebration and Memorial Food Drive. We are accepting non-perishable food items starting on Friday, May 3 through to Thursday, May 9.
Many thanks in advance for your continued support of this memorial event.
Grade 5 Students to Manuels
In April the Grade Five classes took part in a field trip to the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Center. This field trip supplemented our learning about Indigenous groups in our province. Students explored maps of the province and learned about locations where Indigenous people first settled. They then had an opportunity to walk a section of the Manuels River trail system and learn about how Indigenous people used trees and other things in the natural world in their everyday lives. All students were well behaved and amazing ambassadors for EPE!!
Class Lists
Please know that a lot of thought and care goes into creating balanced class lists that will meet the needs of all our learners. When we are developing groups for nearly 500 learners it is extremely challenging to provide every child with their ‘perfect peer group’. A myriad of different factors are considered when we build class lists, including in school peer relationships, academic strengths and goals, social emotional learning goals, student services supports, and teacher recommendations.
We are so lucky to have such an amazingly experienced group of staff here at EPE and we appreciate your trust in our professional judgment as we look to develop our class lists for next year.
Class lists for the upcoming year will be released on Admin Day - Tuesday, September 3rd.
Bussing Information
As mentioned earlier this year, we are excited for our new buses that will be available in the fall. We are expecting to have six buses available to bring our students in to school.
We thought that it would be worth reminding everyone where the key information is for all of your bussing needs. Please click on the link below to explore our bussing resources.
Twitter and Fireworks!
We love taking the time to celebrate our students here at the school. If there has been an amazing student achievement that you would like us to celebrate - whether it is a Kiwanis performance, a gymnastics event, a robotics or chess competition, please reach out to elizabethparkelem@nlschools.ca or tweet us @ElizabethParkEl
Reminders About Safe Travel to School
A reminder that as our students begin to come to school during the spring term, we often see them arriving on bike, trike, scooter and rollerblade. Students should wear helmets, and are asked to walk their 'vehicle' in to school each day.
