Eagle Academy Weekly Update
Week of September 15, 2024
PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Happy September!
Our week started off strong with a wonderful presentation by the Freebird Foundation who gave a great speech on Suicide Awareness, and provided us with resources.
Students were kept very busy this week with lots of activities!
A group of lucky students went and volunteered at the Funny Farm. They learned how to bale hay and work with the animals.
Culinary was busy learning how to use the dehydrator to make some tasty treats!
Mr. Smith taught his classes how to safely use tools to make picnic tables for Linwood Library. Almost every student had the opportunity to help build them.

Picnic Tables for the Linwood Library
Eagle Academy partnered with the Friends of the Linwood Public Library this year to build ADA-compliant picnic tables. The Friends of the Library provided the materials and Mr. Smith's classes worked outside this week measuring, cutting, drilling, gluing, and fastening the wood together with screws. Every student at Eagle contributed, with most of them handling tools for the first time in their lives. The tables were started Monday afternoon and were finished on Friday.
Community Partnerships
Volunteering at the Funny Farm
Mr. Kertz and Mr. Langhurst brought Eagle Students to volunteer at the Funny Farm this week.
Freebird Foundation
In recognition of Suicide Awareness month, Eagle Academy staff and students met with some of the founding members of The Freebird Foundation. This organization is comprised of EHT residents, the Bordonaro family & their closest friends, who have come together to form a Suicide Prevention and Resources organization in honor of our very own EHTHS graduate and beloved community member, Michael Bordonaro. A little over a year ago, Michael, died by suicide at the young age of 24. This shocking event prompted the family to carry Michael's legacy through the civility of spreading awareness, support, and resources for those who are or know and love someone who is struggling with mental health or addictions that could lead to suicidal thoughts, ideals, attempts, or the absolute worst—completion. If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, you are not alone and confidential help is available. #988
