Happy New Year! As you know, CSD has canceled school on Friday, January 10th due to the impending winter storm.

Below is CSD’s plan for school closure:

• Friday: School will be closed. No remote learning.

• If necessary, Monday: Remote Learning

• K-5 students have a math and reading worksheet to work on at home

• If necessary, beyond Monday:

• Students K-12 will be able to access learning platforms such as Google Classroom, Lalilo, Freckle, and others as usual.

• Teachers will be available via email or Google Meet at scheduled times to support students and families. Teachers will communicate their availability for both morning and afternoon sessions.

• We understand that power outages or connectivity issues may affect your ability to access online learning. We will be flexible with expectations and will do our best to accommodate any challenges families or staff may face.

In your student's backpack today you will find a worksheet with a math and reading activity your child can complete Monday in the event that we are out again. Also in your child’s backpack is a Chromebook, power cord and their Quick Card. Students are very familiar with using Quick Cards on school Chromebooks in order to access the Launchpad for online learning resources.

If schools are closed beyond Monday, students may use it to access Lalilo and Freckle Math. Your child should know how to do this but we are always available to help, if needed! If this is the case, we will send families additional information.

Please return the Chromebooks and power cords to school on our first day back. Thank you and stay safe and warm!

CSD has continued to monitor the weather due to the potential of severe weather conditions. The safety of our staff and students is always our top priority. After consultation with local and state officials and the National Weather Service, CSD schools and buildings, including ECLC and the Frasier Center, will be closed tomorrow, Friday, January 10, 2025. All athletic and after-school activities for Friday and Saturday are canceled.

Out of an abundance of caution in case of a continued closure on or beyond Monday, January 13, students in grades K-5 and Adapted Curriculum classes will be sent home with work packets and a CSD Chromebook for an independent learning day. Grades 6-12 will continue to take Chromebooks and chargers home to access Google Classroom for assigned work.

Staff and families should continue to check email, the CSD website, and social media channels for updates.

Please join us Friday, January 17th at 9:15 (following Community Circle) in room 214 (Mrs. Jones’ room on the top floor), for a Parent Coffee Chat on Glennwood’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Various members of the PBIS Committee will present on what PBIS is and some of its evidence-based research as well as an introduction to our new Eagle Buck School Store! We hope that you are able to join us for some coffee and conversation.

The City Schools of Decatur appreciates the contributions of parents, students, and employees. Each year, CSD takes part in annual school climate surveys and climate star ratings organized by the Georgia Department of Education. The outcomes will contribute to our district's School Climate Star Ratings, which are included in each school's yearly College and Career Ready Performance Index. All public schools in Georgia participate in a Student Health Survey, Parent Survey, and School Personnel Survey as part of the school climate survey process. Read-a-Thon is one of our biggest PTA fundraisers that encourages all students to get excited about reading while participating in a friendly competition and having fun!

Culture Night is a Glennwood community event where our families can come together to share their culture with others.

Run With the Dogs 5K and Pup Trot, presented by Green Orthodontics, is a 21-year tradition supporting Decaturs Bulldog Boosters. In addition to being a Peachtree Road Race qualifier and a great community event, all proceeds support 19 sports programs at DHS and BHMS, which include 57 teams and over 1,100 student athletes.

Grab your friends and your pups and join this fun event on January 25 to support an amazing cause.
