Dear Spartans

As we move into October, I want to remind everyone that MP1 (Marking Period 1) ends Friday, October 25th. Our CSA's (Common Summative Assessments) are scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd and Thursday, October 24th. These are full days of school and we will not be running Spartan Time on the 24th. Students should anticipate hours 1,3,5 assessments on the 23rd and hours 2,4,6 on the 24th.

Last week, I challenged our students to stay committed and engaged in their academics - to "Embrace The Grind!" Success looks different for everyone and often the same with the journey. We have an amazing team that is here to support our students. Typically, at this point in the school year, most classes have already had their first unit / chapter test and students may start to question their status. Finding a connection to your school community plays an important role in supporting students. We offer a vast array of clubs, groups, athletics, music, and drama to name a few. Our Spartan Pride has been amazing this year. Get involved and stay involved. Keep up the good work!

LPS MARCHING BAND SHOWCASE – October 1, 2024
Stevenson is proud to host the second annual Livonia Public Schools Marching Band Showcase on Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m. on the Stevenson football field. The event will feature the Churchill, Franklin, and Stevenson Marching Bands performing their 2024 half-time shows. This is a great opportunity for the three high schools to perform for each other and the community prior to the MSBOA Marching Band Festival in October. The event is open to the public. Admission is by donation at the gate. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Come out and support the Marching Bands from all three high schools. We have wonderful and talented musicians and performers across the district.

SENIORS! If you need a letter of recommendation from your counselor or teacher, please make sure you have submitted the Letter of Recommendation Assistance Form to your recommender by October 25th. If you are using Common App, please enter their information by October 25th as well. If you do not, we may not be able to meet the November 1st Early Decision Deadline.

Accepting Imperfection is the theme for the 2024-25 National PTSA Reflections contest. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-created theme. Categories you can submit a work of art under include Dance - Film - Literature - Music - Photography - Visual Arts.

Deadline to submit your entry is NOVEMBER 15. Check flyers around the building and the PTSA link on the SHS website.

Breakfast & Lunch

The application link for the federal assistance program has been updated to the following: Horizon Free & Reduced Apps (horizonsolana.com)

Families who may qualify for the federal assistance program still need to fill out the application, even though all school meals are free this year. Filling out the application may provide several other financial assistance benefits for your family, including reduced fees for Pay to Participate, enrollment in the Summer EBT program and other beneficial discounts. This will also assist the district in receiving reimbursements for meals served.

If your family normally qualifies for "free or reduced" school meals, we encourage you to fill out the application for this school year.

As you may already be aware, our district is facing a critical shortage of bus drivers at this time. This continues to be a nationwide issue and one that our LPS Transportation Department has been working diligently to address over the past several weeks.

Due to the shortage of drivers, the following bus routes (for both morning and afternoon), are impacted by cancellations:

• September 30 - October 4
  Bus F, G, H, and J

We encourage families to partner together during this challenging period by carpooling. Please be sure to check your child’s bus number or letter in Parent Connect, as some students ride one bus in the morning and a different bus in the afternoon.

The yearly membership fee is $20 and 100% of the money raised goes directly to our students, clubs, teams, classes and more. Your membership allows you to vote on funding requests presented at our monthly meetings. We will not bombard you with emails or texts and you are not required to attend meetings.

We will continue to sell Family Passes for $90, but we have DECREASED student passes from $45 to $20. Come back to the Athletic office during the school day or inquire at any sporting event.
