Hello! This week, the students finished Unit 1 content by learning about the geography and culture of the 3 British colonial regions (New England, Middle, and Southern). The rest of the week, they began prepping and working on their open notes Unit 1 summative. Please ask your students to explain what they're supposed to do! They spent time in class breaking down the prompt and rubric.
On Friday, I will be out due to a family member passing. The students will do sub-work and learn about the Salem Witch Trials.

The library orientations have completed for all students! Most students have now checked out at least one book from the library! Notices will go out next week for 6th students who have overdue materials and over the following two weeks for 7th and 8th graders.
Students are able to see their current loans by accessing their library accounts through the Clever app called "Destiny Discover". They can follow the process below to see items that they have checked out:
Log into Clever (clever.com/in/dcpsk12)
Search "Destiny Discover" or navigate to the Library Resources section and click on the icon.
Click on the "My Stuff" link at the top of the screen to see any items that are checked out.
Students who have lost materials or see items that may be linked to their account by mistake should speak with Mr. Reichlen.
There are no fines or penalties for lost materials. Donations of hard cover titles of middle school-age-appropriate works in good condition are always accepted if families are able to replace lost materials.
Updated DCPS Policies
Retakes and Grading:
· Any assignment that earned a D+ or below may be retaken once within the progress report marking period. The highest possible grade on a revised assignment is a C (76).
· All late work for assignments due before progress reports must be submitted by the end of the progress report marking period. Assignments due before this period will not be accepted after this deadline. All late work for assignments assigned after the end of the progress report marking period is due by the end of the term. The grade for a late assignment will be reduced by one letter grade (i.e. A- to B-).
Mesa Verde Led Food Drive
Our team will be running and participating in a food drive benefitting the Capital Area Food Bank leading up to Thanksgiving. We will be hosting a competition between homerooms to see who can bring in the most canned food. We will count how many unexpired items each first period class brings in and collect them for donation. I will buy doughnuts for the winning homeroom.
