Newsletter 12/4/24
First and foremost, I hope that our East Community had a healthy and happy Thanksgiving Recess. It is always a great time to reconnect with family and friends. Let me just say in the spirit of the holiday, how thankful I am to be serving as the Principal of East High School. I consider it an honor and privilege to serve this community everyday.
As the weather has finally turned on the colder side and the potential for snow this week, we ask that all our families adjust by leaving for school a few minutes earlier. This will help to ensure arriving at school on time and in a safe manner.
Every newsletter I try to highlight some of the great things students are doing here at East High School. I would like to start off by congratulating our Model UN team who won FIVE awards at the 2024 Canisius University Model UN Conference. Just to give you some perspective on what a great achievement this is, the next closest school won only two awards. The whole team put in so much effort and represented East High School with determination and enthusiasm.
Please join me in also congratulating Sienna Solazzo, Reilin Lyu and Gary Yang as well as alternate Eleanor Hinklin as they will be representing Williamsville East in this years' Conference All-State music groups! It is a true testament to their hard work and dedication as young musicians here at East High School. In other music news, Winterfest is just around the corner. We have two nights of great music planned and we hope you can come out and join us on either Wednesday, December 18th or Thursday, December 19th.
Most of our Winter Sports Teams will be starting competitions over the next couple weeks. Sports schedules are posted on our school calendar as well as ArbiterLive. We want to wish all of our athletes a healthy and successful sports season. We know they will represent East High School with excellent sportsmanship and make us all proud.
Just a reminder that our second night of Family Conferences is on Thursday, December 12th from 5-8pm. We had a great turnout for our first night and look forward to seeing all of you here at East High School On December 12th.
Thank you for taking the time to read our Newsletter, we hope you will continue to find it informative. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerts.
Respectfully,
Jason T. Swenson

Seal Of Civic Readiness 2024-2025
The District’s application to offer the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Seal of Civic Readiness program at each of our high schools was approved for the 2024-2025 school year
The Seal of Civic Readiness is a formal distinction on a student’s high school transcript and diploma that they have attained a high level of proficiency in terms of civic knowledge, skills, mindset, and civic experiences. It can also be used as a graduation pathway.
In order to obtain the Seal of Civic Readiness, a student must complete all the requirements for a New York State local or Regents diploma and earn a total of six points with at least two points in Civic Knowledge and at least two points in Civic Participation.
Seal Of Biliteracy 2024-2025
Seal of Biliteracy
The District’s application to offer the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Seal of Biliteracy program at each of our high schools was approved for the 2024-2025 school year.
The New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages, in addition to English.
The intent of the NYSSB is to encourage the study of languages; identify high school graduates with language and biliteracy skills for employers; provide universities with additional information about applicants seeking admission; prepare students with twenty-first century skills; recognize the value of world and home language instruction in schools; and affirm the value of diversity in a multilingual society. The NYSSB takes the form of a special seal that bestows an honor to the student. The seal is affixed on the student’s diploma and there is a notation of the award on the official transcript.
