A Message from Mrs. Stauffer
Dear Rainbow Families,
Beginning on April 22nd, our third, fourth and fifth grade students will take the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) tests. The annual Pennsylvania System School Assessment is a standards-based, criterion-referenced assessment which provides students, parents, educators, and citizens with an understanding of student and school performance related to the attainment of proficiency of the academic standards. These standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology identify what a student should know and be able to do at varying grade levels. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 3 through 8 is assessed in English Language Arts and Math. Every Pennsylvania student in grades 4 and 8 is assessed in science.
These assessments will be administered on the following days:
English Lang. Arts April 22nd to April 24th Grades 3, 4, & 5
Math April 29th and April 39th
Science May 1st to May 2nd Grade 4
During the assessment dates, we encourage students to leave cell phones and electronic devices like smart watches at home.
PSSA REMINDERS FOR TEST TAKERS AND FAMILIES
To ensure student success and accuracy on the assessments, we ask for your help with the following:
• Encourage your student to leave electronic devices at home.
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep on the nights before testing.
• Provide a nutritious breakfast for your child. Breakfast is served daily at Rainbow free of charge.
• Be sure your child arrives at school on time. Children who arrive to school late (after 10:00 a.m.), will not be permitted to join the testing in progress. They will be supervised until the test is over and will have to make up the missed session later.
• Be mindful of your child’s stress levels and reassure her/him that she/he can do this. The tests are not timed. We want students to feel confident that they are test ready as they have worked hard and learned much this year.
• Make-up sessions may occur during the afternoon. So, if your child needs to leave early for an appointment, please notify us before the start of the school day. If a child begins a test session, and leaves, she/he may not finish it later. Also, please try to schedule appointments for your child on non-testing days.
Kind Regards,
Respectfully,
Mrs. Stauffer
Classroom Teacher Requests
Each year, Rainbow faculty are responsible for assigning each student to a classroom for the following school year. A great deal of time, effort, and thought goes into the process of student placement. We strive to balance our classrooms academically and socially and provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.
At Rainbow, we have a skilled team of teachers who are ready to support our students. I am confident that your child(ren) will thrive in any of their classrooms as our teachers are adept with supporting students and their individual needs.
Please know that due to the size of our school, staffing movement, and the complexity of the class planning process, we do not accept requests for specific teachers. Thank you for your understanding. Together, we will make the 2024-2025 school year one of growth and achievement for all children.
