The Cardinal Way
Sharing and Learning at Southport High School
Leading and Learning:
As we approach the end of another academic year, it's time to reflect on the incredible journey we have embarked on together. The last several months have undoubtedly been filled with challenges, triumphs, and personal growth. Now, as we come close to bidding farewell to this chapter, let us celebrate the school year's ending as a gateway to new beginnings for our students and staff.
For our students, the culmination of the school year represents a significant milestone. It is a moment to acknowledge their achievements, applaud their perseverance, and honor their dedication to learning. Each test completed, project accomplished, and friendship forged has contributed to their growth and development. As they transition to the next grade level or embark on new educational adventures, let us encourage them to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. This is their chance to set new goals, discover hidden talents, and unlock their potential. By nurturing their curiosity and cultivating a sense of resilience, we empower our students to embark on an exciting new journey.
Similarly, our remarkable staff members have played a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience for our students. Their unwavering commitment, creativity, and passion have created a nurturing environment where students can thrive. As we approach the end of the school year, let us express our gratitude for their dedication and hard work. It is also an opportune time for our staff to reflect on their own professional growth, celebrate their achievements, and set new aspirations for the future. This is an ideal moment to recharge, explore fresh teaching strategies, and find inspiration to invigorate their classrooms in the coming year.
While the end of the school year may mark the conclusion of a chapter, it simultaneously opens the door to new beginnings. As we bid farewell to this school year, let us cherish the memories, honor the achievements, and look forward to the many exciting possibilities that await us in the future. The end of one chapter is simply the beginning of the next, and we are excited to embark on this new adventure.

Cardinal Recognitions: 🙌🏽
Thank you to:
- our translators for assisting with the vaccination. We vaccinated 70 students, and the majority of those students have barriers with language or transportation. All four of our translaotors contacted families and helped with paperwork to make this clinic run smoothly.
- custodial crew for their efforts in setting up the Fieldhouse for graduation.

Grateful Friday Challenge 🎉
4…3...2...1... Happy Friday! Happy Last Student Friday of the school year! Today marks the beginning of our last four days with our current students. (Sing it with me...It’s the final countdown!)
One hundred seventy-six days have come and gone and we only have THREE days left in the school year! Where has the time gone?
We have had a great year celebrating ourselves and each other during the past 10 months, and now here we are… smiles are a little bit bigger, steps get a little bit peppier, and life seems a little bit sweeter as we can see the effort of our years worth of work with the students who are filling our classrooms.
Today, let’s do our own version of a countdown. Can you complete all five of the #SHSGFC challenges below? I know we are all busy, but taking the time to celebrate all the great things from this school year will make the day even better.
Ready… Set… Go….Today do the following:
Give: FOUR genuine compliments to students throughout the day.
Ask: THREE people who their favorite teacher in school was.
Write: TWO hand written notes of appreciation.
Give: ONE big pat on the back to yourself for being the best version of yourself every day!
Four…. Three…. Two….. One! With banners flying as we go…

Unified Track
TALC
These students were part of the first-ever Perry TALC (Township African Leadership Council). This group consisted of Rita Yalala, Mystere Muyonga, Louise Kasongo, Francois Kiyana, and Shamim Kabagenyi, along with building-level and district-level administrators. The focus was to work to better understand the perspectives and assets within the African cultures. The goal for the 2023-2024 school year is to create a better system to get African families acclimated to Southport High School and foster opportunities for more involvement in after-school activities.
