BSES Weekly Update

BSES Families-

We had a great week at school! With some rainy weather, our students had a chance to enjoy indoor recess, and they made the most of it. We look forward to the sun returning and getting back outside. We also held our first fire drill, and we are proud of how quickly and safely our students exited the building—great job to everyone!

A big thank you to our parent volunteers who helped make Picture Day a success. The students looked fabulous, and we appreciate your support in capturing those special memories.

Next week, our school will be closed on Thursday in observance of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This holiday is a time for reflection, renewal, and celebration. To those in our community celebrating, we wish you peace, light, and a sweet new year.

The elementary after school activity program offers a multitude of activities that meet the varied interests of our students. Activities are school specific and run during one or multiple sessions. This brochure provides an overview of the Fall Session for clubs that begin on Monday, October 7th and continue through Friday, December 13th. Parents will also notice that some activities are deigned to be developmentally appropriate and may specify a particular grade of student participants. We hope that you will sign up today!!

We are thrilled to share that our students are taking an active role in creating new school-wide rules as part of our Responsive Classroom initiative this school year! This district-wide elementary effort will involve collaboration across all three elementary schools, ensuring that the rules we create together reflect the values and aspirations of our entire student body. Our students will not only help shape new elementary expectations that foster a positive and inclusive environment for all, but also develop valuable skills in communication, collaboration, and leadership. We are eager to see how their voices will contribute to making our school an even better place and look forward to sharing updates within our Smore newsletters.

It’s here…..a clothing bin at BSES!! We now have a bin on our property to collect unwanted clothing, outerwear, footwear, accessories, and bags. By supporting our bin at BSES, you can ensure that contributed items are repurposed or recycled, rather than ending up in landfills. Later this fall, students will learn more about the bin during the Environmental Unit in STEAM classes. Join us in making a positive impact!

To ensure smooth and timely dismissal changes, please send all email requests directly to our school secretary, Kristin Sheehan, at sheehak@garnetvalley.org or call 610-579-3000. While you’re welcome to include your child's homeroom teacher, Kristin should be your primary contact for any dismissal updates. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal running smoothly!

Need to add or update emergency contacts to pick up your child from school? Log into Alma and tap/click your initials in the top right corner (on a PC) or the bottom right corner (on a phone). Next, tap/click on 'My Info.' Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the green box with a plus sign that says 'Add Emergency Contact.' Be sure to keep emergency contact information up-to-date. If you need assistance, please reach out to the front office for help.

Ms. Arters and Ms. Massini are looking forward to heading up the 4th and 5th grade musical again this year. A huge thank you to everyone who made last year such a success. This year's musical is Annie Jr and we are looking forward to seeing everyone interested in joining us at our audition on October 23rd! LAST CALL! 9/30 deadline for our donation drive! Looking for a no-fuss way to support the BSES HSA? You can choose to opt out of fundraising this year, and anything you can contribute, regardless of amount, is much appreciated. Your contributions to the drive will 100% DIRECTLY benefit BSES and help us achieve our goals this year, including updates to the upper grade’s playground with new playground equipment and funds to help offset the cost of field trips. The Charleston Wrap fundraiser begins on Monday, September 16! Keep an eye out for the catalog that will be sent home with your child. Charleston Wrap offers a range of great items, including gift wrap and accessories, kitchen essentials, gourmet food, bags, candles, and personalized gifts. You can check off your holiday shopping list and shop for yourself, too -- all while supporting our school! All orders are placed online and purchases will be shipped directly to your home, making this an easy and seamless shopping experience!

Here are the steps to participate:

1) REGISTER: Register now as a participant at www.registercw.com. The organization ID for BSES is 16745.

2) SHOP: Shop online and help us reach our goal today. With over 2,500 gift ideas, there is something for everyone -- including you!

2) INVITE: Invite 10+ friends and family to support our cause! Share a link to our sale using the text and email invitation tools as well as on social media. Students may receive prizes for the amount of sales and number of invitations they send.

The School Beautification Committee will be hosting a BSES Pumpkin Patch & Decorating Party on Friday, 10/4 from 5:00-6:30 pm! All proceeds will support our HSA’s school beautification fund! To purchase a soft pretzel snack for a student for all 8 pretzel Fridays, please fill out the Google form (link below) and send $10 per student to BSES-HSA Venmo (QR code below) or send $10 in cash to school in an envelope with a note including the student’s and homeroom teacher’s name by Friday, 10/4.

*Advance payment by 10/4 is required. We will not be accepting monthly orders/payment this year.

Students can show their school spirit by wearing spirit wear or GV colors on the first Friday of each month starting in October!
