AMS Weekly Update
Monday, October 28 - Friday, November 1
Dear Adams Middle School Families,
It's hard to believe we're already a quarter of the way through the school year! This week is an exciting one for our students as we host our first PBIS event—the Fall Ball! The dance will take place on Wednesday, October 30th, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. Tickets for the Fall Ball are $5.00. We will also have pizza, pop, and snacks available for students to purchase for $1.00 each.
Students are encouraged to wear costumes, but please ensure they are school-appropriate with no blood, gore, blow-up costumes, weapons or masks. Students must have their school ID to attend the dance. The event will end promptly at 4:30 PM, so please arrange for your child to be picked up on time.
On Halloween, students are allowed to wear costumes to school. However, please ensure all costumes are school-appropriate with no blood, no blow-up costumes, no weapons, gore, or masks.
On a more serious note, we kindly ask that you talk to your child about the importance of arriving to class on time. Students have 5 minutes of passing time between classes, but we've noticed an increase in tardies. Thank you for your support in helping us address this!
Finally, we want to wish all of our families a safe and Happy Halloween!
Mrs. Bukosky and Mrs. Abbott
NO SCHOOL: NOVEMBER 5, 2024
Dear Families and Staff,
The district and the teachers' union have been working together on contract negotiations over the past several months. While we have not yet finalized all calendar dates, we have agreed to hold a district-wide professional development day on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. As a result, there will be no school for students on that day.
Thank you for your patience, and we will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Jen Curry
Acting Superintendent

Special Education
Fall is here!! With the exception of a couple of days, the weather has been amazing. In addition to the weather being amazing, we also have an amazing special education team helping our students reach their goals and be successful both in and out of the classroom. This month I would like to introduce to you our 6th grade and 8th grade Resource Room teachers, Mrs. Bridges and Mrs. Mezigian.
My name is Alisa Bridges, and I have been teaching for 27 years. Twenty-five of those years have been spent at Adams Middle School in the Wayne Westland District, where I serve as a Special Education Teacher. Before that, I taught 5th grade and Cross Categorical in Covert, Michigan for 2 years. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with students of all abilities, and my passion has always been helping them reach their educational goals. I’m especially committed to supporting students with disabilities, helping them overcome challenges, and building their self-confidence.
Each day, I’m driven by the belief that every student can succeed, and I feel honored to be part of their journey. My family also plays a significant role in my life. I am married to Sharod, and we have three wonderful children who keep us busy and motivated. Our oldest, Robert, is a freshman at Alabama A&M, while our middle son, Rashod, is in 10th grade, and our daughter, Reigna, is in 5th grade. They are the reason I push myself to be better today and every day.
I strive to make a difference in my students' lives, just as my own children inspire me to grow as both an educator and a person.
My name is Shawn Mezigian and I have been working in Wayne Westland for 24 years. I started off as a Special Education teacher in a Cross-cat room with elementary students. After that, I taught general education 5th grade for several years before returning to special education as a Resource Room teacher. I love seeing what students can accomplish, especially when academic subjects are hard for them.
I have two children of my own. My daughter, Lauryn, is a senior in college. She is studying Hospitality and Tourism at Grand Valley. My son, Brody, is going through the Fire Academy at Schoolcraft. They are working hard to accomplish their own goals as young adults. That makes me really proud. I also have a dog named Hudson. He is my biggest fan! ( Haha) He’s a big Labrador Retriever that is my companion when my kids are away from home.
I am lucky to have the family life and career that I have. The people in my life are truly a blessing and I am fortunate to have them.
Science
Over the next two weeks, Seventh-Grade Science students will investigate different types of cells that make up living things. Eighth-grade science students are investigating the composition of minerals and rocks. Science and Engineering students are working with the Sam’s Studio program to program autonomous vehicles and structures.
Our science students will engage in many laboratory assignments and projects to reinforce learning. Students in seventh grade will use microscopes to conduct investigations of different types of cells. Eighth-grade students will use computer simulations to study how the continents move across the face of the Earth. Science and Engineering students will work as teams to learn how to program and fly drones.
As we engage in science learning activities, we are focusing on using both written and verbal communication skills to help students explain results and concepts using scientific language.
Our student spotlight this week is the third-hour Science and Engineering class. This week, the students created an automated lighthouse using Legos and programmable coding blocks.

Congratulations to Ms. Keller-Jackson! As one of our outstanding 6th-grade teachers, Ms. Keller-Jackson has made a tremendous impact at AMS. She builds phenomenal relationships with her students, spends time after school decorating the 6th-grade hallway, and always has a smile on her face. Thank you for all that you do here at AMS, Ms. Keller-Jackson!
