WOW, what a fantastic evening at the Band Gala. If you left an award at the school, directors have them and will be handing them out in class on Monday. Thank you to ALL THE PARENTS who made this band gala possible!

THIS week we will have our Spring Concerts for all Bands and our Full Orchestra.

Band Concert - Tuesday, May 16th

• 6:00PM Rehearsal with ALL bands in Montgomery Center
• 7:00PM Concerts begin (Symphonic/ Symphonic Winds/ Wind Ensemble/ Wind Symphony)

Orchestra Concert - Thursday, May 18th (Wind Symphony members are in the full orchestra)

• 7:00PM Concert begins (full orchestra is around 8pm)

Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, Wind Ensemble and any Wind Symphony student not performing with the full orchestra will turn in concert attire items on Wednesday. Wind Symphony playing on the Full Orchestra Concert will need to turn in on Friday.

You must turn it in to Mr. Lisko.

Wylie ISD is proud to announce that we will be having our first ever “Fine Arts Signing Days!” We will be recognizing our seniors who will be continuing in fine arts as a major in their discipline, or continuing as a non-major with a scholarship to participate in their discipline.

Please plan to come and support your peers on their special day! Each signee will have a table that they will decorate, and we will have a nice presentation to celebrate their future!

Caveat - IF YOU ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS, you will have more forms and information to fill out. It all goes to the same place, so you only need to go through the athletics department forms and process, not both.

DONE FOR YOU. If you are not using your primary physician, we have scheduled a Pre-Participation Physical Night for May 10th for the WHS feeder pattern! Physicals are $25 each and 100% of that benefits our Sports Medicine program. Below is a flyer with all the information for you to share with your athletes and students.

As a reminder, Wylie ISD now requires annual physicals for all UIL activities.

Every year on the LAST THURSDAY of school we have our MANDATORY End Of Year Marching Camp. Well, typically it is on the last day. This year it will be on the second to last day and go a little shorter than normal. Details are below.

• 4:00pm Incoming freshmen arrive at the band hall to receive marching instruments. Concert instruments could be ready as well.
• 5:00pm Full Band begins with music in the band hall or Montgomery Center (MC)
• 6:15pm Outside for a short Marching rehearsal in WISD Stadium
• 7:30pm Parent meeting & Hot Dog TWB Family Picnic in the Montgomery Center (MC)

Don't ask me if you can miss a mandatory event. It will make my head hurt and possibly explode. We have one of the top music programs in the state and nation. We didn't get that way by missing rehearsals or mandatory fun time.

We need volunteers to measure new members for performance tops. During the camp, you will pull all of the new members to measure them during the indoor part of the rehearsal from 4:00 PM- 6:15 PM.

If you are interested in Jazz Band, then prepare the short excerpt for Mr. Lisko and perform it for Mr. Lisko when we do band auditions on May 17th. We take saxophones, trumpets, trombones, drummers, pianists, bassists, and guitarists.

This Week

• Auditions start Wednesday with School-Owned Instruments (Oboe, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Horn, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba)
• School-Owned Instruments will be turned in immediately following your audition
• Seniors will turn in School-Owned Instruments on Wednesday (clean out all personal items & remove name tags)
• Marching Instruments will be issued by the end of the week- have any supplies, mouthpieces, etc. needed to play in your locker (9th-11th graders)

Congrats all on your wonderful performances this Saturday at Solo & Ensemble! We are so blessed to teach such creative and hardworking students. Each year we are increasingly surprised and excited at the talents and creativity you show off in your performances.

We will be taking 2 band trips next year.

• TWB takes a full marching band trip every year to San Antonio in anticipation to qualify for the UIL State Marching Championships. This trip will be around $300-$400. If we qualify for State, it will be $300. If we do not, it will be $400. This will be explained at the end of year marching band meeting.
• The Wind Symphony was accepted to play in New York and give a concert at Carnegie Hall. I proposed a concert for all bands and not just the Wind Symphony and it was APPROVED! If you don't know the history and significance of Carnegie Hall, just click below. This trip will be around $2,100. The dates would be March 7-11, 2024

The age old question...How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.

You work SO HARD....don't cook on these nights...take a night off and support your local restaurants and your local band kids.

Wylie ISD has approved the school calendar for 2023-24. This includes a fall break; however, all athletic and fine arts contests, rehearsals and productions will still run during that week. Meaning, even though WISD has a fall break scheduled, there will still be a football game and contests. This means there will be rehearsals too. Below is our plan for that week, so if you are looking to go away some time, here are the dates we will have games, rehearsals and contests.

OCTOBER 6-14 Schedule
