Weekly Highlights from Ms. Manning
Black History Month
We’re excited to kick off Black History Month at East Village Elementary! Throughout February, our students will celebrate with weekly activities and spirit days. Teachers will also be highlighting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to inspire and educate our students.
Later this month, we will host a special Black History Assembly, where we will recognize some of our very own student trailblazers making a difference at EVE.
Today, students and staff proudly wore their Black History Month shirts. Get ready for next Wednesday’s spirit day—we encourage everyone to dress in their Sunday best as we continue our celebration!
Thank you for your support in making this a meaningful and inspiring month for our students.
ATLAS Interim Testing
This week our 3rd and 5th grade students began taking their ATLAS Interim Assessments in reading, writing, math, and science. We have seen great growth, but we know our students can grow even more and we are going to continue to teach them as much as we can so they are prepared for the big ATLAS assessment in the spring. 4th and 6th grade students will be taking their assessments next week. Please make sure your student is rested, gets a good breakfast, and arrives to school every day on time. We are fostering a spirit of excellence in our building and we want our students to do the same in showing what they know.
New District Communication Tool
We are always working to improve and simplify communication between you and eStem Schools. Keeping up with your child’s coursework and their teachers directly impacts their well-being both in the classroom and at home. School communication plays a big part in all of this, but it’s often not set up to be as simple and easy to access as it could be.
That’s what we’re working to solve. This year, we’re adding a new feature called Rooms to our district app. Rooms enables you to have two-way parent-teacher conversations and keep up with classroom announcements.
Our district app currently offers:
· Live feed updates
· District and school news
· Upcoming events
· Breakfast and lunch menus
· Push notifications for important and urgent announcements
With Rooms, you’ll have access to even more exciting features like:
· Two way messaging with teachers, staff, and coaches
· Classroom announcements, reminders about coursework, and materials
· Behavior tracking for celebrating good behavior and academic achievement
· Automatic translation
So what does all of this mean for you? This means that you don’t need another app or tool to keep up with your child’s teachers and coursework. You’ll be able to find the vast majority of school and district information in one place: within our eStem app. If you don’t already have it, the district app is free and you can search for it in the Play Store and App Store!
On Wednesday, February 12th you’ll receive an invite to Rooms by email or text. Once you receive the invite, you'll follow the link on your browser to create a login.
After you’ve created your login, you can access Rooms through the eStem app. Once you’re there, you’ll see a Classroom button in the bottom right hand corner. If you have multiple children attending our district, you’ll be connected to all of them from this invite.
We hope this offers you a richer, simpler—and ultimately—easier communication experience. You can read more about Rooms on our district’s FAQ page here. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
Valentine's Day Parties
Our classroom Valentine's Day parties will take place on Thursday, February 13th, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable event while accommodating our shared space with DTJH students and staff, we kindly ask for your cooperation with the following:
- Limited Parent Attendance: We must restrict the number of parents allowed in the building.
- No Additional Siblings: Unfortunately, younger siblings will not be able to attend.
Your child’s teacher has provided details on how you can contribute to making this celebration a success. Thank you for your understanding and support!
We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a fun-filled celebration for our students.

🔅🔅General School Information🔅🔅
Attendance and Absences
Students should attend school unless illness or an extenuating circumstance justifies an absence. Students are required to maintain prompt and regular attendance in accordance with school policy. Parents have the responsibility to monitor attendance and to familiarize themselves with policies pertaining to the educational program of the school. Parents can monitor student attendance through the Home Access Center (HAC).
If a student is unable to attend school, the parent/guardian must notify the school by email at the school attendance email by 7:45AM on the day of the absence. Email is the preferred method of notification. Do not email the Director, Teacher or other staff members. To ensure documentation is recorded correctly use the attendance email address listed above. Documentation needs to be emailed or turned into the office within 5 days of the student returning to school. Email: evelemattendance@estemschools.org
When a student has or exceeds 10 unexcused absences in a semester (can be a full days or combination of morning and afternoon absences) in a semester the District shall notify the prosecuting authority. The parent/guardian/person in loco parentis shall be subject to a civil penalty as prescribed by law.
Student Check-out
Check-outs should be reserved for medical appointments or emergencies only. When students are checked out early, they are missing important instruction.
A student may be checked out of school in the case of an emergency or for a medical appointment. Please provide documentation to the office for appointment.
The student will be released from class when the parent/guardian arrives at the student’s school office.
No check-outs after 2:00 p.m.
Early check-out may not be used to avoid the carpool line.
Early check-outs will be monitored and excessive use may result in parent conference with Administration.
Early check-out also causes your student to miss very important instruction at the end of the day and can be counted towards tardies and absences.
Email, Address, or Phone Number Changes
If you have an address, email, or phone number change, please email those changes to our registrar, Mrs. Ginny Parker, at Ginny.Parker@estemschools.org. This helps us make sure our records are up to date and so we can provide you with pertinent information.
