Early College High School News
Mission Statement
Our ECHS Owls are taught to have H.O.P.E.--faith in the premise that they can create OPPORTUNITY and a better future through EFFORT, HARD WORK, and PERSONAL COURAGE. This idea of H.O.P.E. is woven into the fabric of our ECHS family.
Greetings ECHS School Community!
KUDOS to ECHS teachers and students for the collaborative teaching and learning happening in our classes. In addition to monthly staff meetings, we engage in meaningful time together as a staff during our weekly professional learning community (PLC) meetings. This intentional time is focused even more on our students, data review, instructional strategies and sharing ideas. We appreciate this year’s PLC co-leads, Ms. Brooke Anaya and Mrs. Amar Picazo, for doing a great job of organizing and facilitating our PLC sessions!
We are entering WEEK SEVEN of this first nine week period. Please remember, we would like to ensure that all students have what they need to be successful. Our teachers have been and will continue to reach out to discuss students who are at risk of failing or who may be failing, in order to share what is needed to raise their grades. Students are definitely encouraged to reach out to their teachers and professors (*of our 10th -12th graders) to schedule time to make up work and to get needed assistance. In addition, as mentioned previously, our Owls are encouraged to review home access (HAC) and Blackboard (for 10th - 12th graders with ACC classes) at least once a week, in order to monitor their grades and progress. We would also like to ensure that our parents are able to help us keep their students on track and encourage regular check-ins with your students as well. Thanks for your continued support.
Once again, this school year, our entire staff will have the great opportunity to nominate ECHS students weekly for being “OWLstanding” within their classes and throughout our campus! OWLstanding student awards will be given to Celebrate Stand Out students in our school community! Also, the “OWLstanding” staff award provides staff the opportunity to nominate their co-workers for the OWLstanding things they are doing! Undoubtedly, we realize it’s important and very meaningful to acknowledge our wonderful students and one another for doing great things for our students, staff, and campus.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
GO OWLS!
Dr. Wilson

DISTRICT UPDATE:
Dr. Azaiez, Superintendent of Schools, September 20 community message
Sep 20, 2024
Dear Round Rock ISD community,
Helping students reach their goals—whether it’s getting into their dream college, landing their ideal career, or serving in the military—starts with us. We’re focused on making sure they’re ready for their next path toward future readiness.
Our Class of 2024 achieved a 97% graduation rate, with 90% demonstrating being college, career, or military-ready. We aim to raise student future readiness to 94% by August 2026.
With high standards, strong support from families and the community, and dedicated teachers, we create a space where our students can thrive and be their best.
Each Spring, our middle and high school students choose their courses for their next school year. To help them make informed decisions, during the Fall, we focus on providing families with a range of info sessions that highlight their opportunities—like earning free college credits or even an associate degree alongside their high school diploma.
Upcoming September events include:
The Central Texas College Fair is on Monday, Sept. 23, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Round Rock High School. Students and families can visit with admission representatives from nearly 200 colleges, universities, and trade schools from around the country and branches of the U.S. armed forces.
The Department of Gifted and Advanced Academics is hosting a state of the district event to provide an overview of district-gifted services and secondary advanced academic options and programming for students on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Ridge High School.
Save the date for more events in October:
Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is the HBCU College Fair and BSU Conference at Cedar Ridge High School – meet admission representatives from local and national historically black colleges and universities.
On Tuesdays we’re hosting Freshmen Programs of Choice Family Information sessions – learn about our comprehensive four-year programs for rising ninth-grades – Early College High School, P-TECH Nursing Early College, and the Middle Years and Diploma International Baccalaureate programmes – with discounted and free and discounted college.
While our secondary students explore pathways to future-readiness, our elementary students focus on building essential literacy and numeracy skills. Starting in PreK and continuing through third grade, we are dedicated to ensuring students perform at or above grade level. In 2023, 76% of kindergarteners were reading at or above grade level—a 5% increase that brings us closer to our board goal of 80% by 2026.
Investing in our early learners builds a strong foundation for their long-term success, ensuring they’re ready to excel for years to come and reach their full potential.
September is Deaf Awareness Month – highlighting the importance of promoting understanding, inclusion, and accessibility for individuals who are deaf. American Sign Language (ASL) is a vital part of deaf culture, offering a rich, visual means of communication. Our district offers ASL classes as an elective for all students at the high school level through our World Language Programs. You can meet our Round Rock High School ASL teachers in this short video.
We’re also proud to be the home of the internationally recognized Capital Area Regional Day School Program for the Deaf, which supports over 275 deaf and hard-of-hearing students across 20 school districts in Central Texas. These students receive specialized support from certified teachers of the deaf.
Last night, the Board of Trustees was thrilled to have several students from the RDSPD at McNeil High School lead the pledges in ASL at our board meeting.
As we move through the school year, we continue to embrace the unique potential in each of our students and provide them with the resources, opportunities, and support they need to succeed.
Thank you for choosing Round Rock ISD. I truly appreciate your support of our schools and am excited about the bright future ahead for our students.
Respectfully,
Dr. Hafedh “AZ” Azaiez
Proud Superintendent of Schools
