Morning Check - Ins
Morning drop-off begins at 7:15 am. The school provides staff to monitor students walking from the car line into the building. Staff return to the building after the tardy bell at 7:40 am. After this time, all students must be walked into the building and signed in by an adult. There are no exceptions.
As an addendum, minors such as older siblings may not sign in our students. An adult is required to sign in every late student.

Golden Bear Awards
Friday's Golden Bear was being responsible with my school supplies. A yard sign was delivered to them today. Congratulations!
For this coming week, Golden Bears selected will be for completing my classwork with my best effort.
STEM Expo at UNCW
We are thrilled to invite your K-8 students to join us for our annual STEM Expo!
The event will take place at the Watson College of Education at UNCW, and will feature interactive booths designed and run by our Science Fair Academy members. Each booth will offer hands-on STEM activities to engage students in exciting scientific concepts. Previous booths have included Alka-Seltzer-powered lava lamps, forensic science demonstrations, slime-making, chromatography, physics experiments, computer vision, and more!
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through fun, interactive learning experiences.
Event details are as follows:
Date: November 2nd
Time: 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Location: Watson College of Education, UNCW (970 Reynolds Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403)
Bikes for Kids
New Hanover County Schools partnered with Bikes for Kids. Through this partnership, 3rd graders learned about goal setting. At the finale event, students had an assembly at New Hanover High School where they though students would be chosen to win a bike.
Surprise!
All third graders in NHCS received a free bike and helmet! Most bikes have been picked up by families, and we are working to contact the families who have yet to receive their bike to make arrangements to get the bikes to their homes. One of our students was chosen to have his essay read to the entire assembly. We are proud of you!
Freeman Participates in Unity Day!
Last week our students took a Kindness Pledge for Unity Day and to celebrate Anti-Bullying Month. They recited a pledge you can see below and solidified their pledge by putting a painted handprint on a community bulletin board. There were discussions around what a bully is, how to prevent bullying, and what to do if you feel you are being bullied.

Away for the Day
At R. Freeman Elementary School, cell phones and personal devices are expected to be away for the day.
- Students will keep personal devices turned off and put away in backpacks.
- This included phones, smart watches, tablets, laptops, headphones, earpods, and similar devices that are not school-issued.
- Students may access their personal devices before school (before they enter the building) and after announcements (2:30pm).
- Students may NOT access their personal devices during the school day (7:15am - 2:30pm).
- Parents may call the front office to leave messages for their student (910) 250-6011
- If a student needs to call home, they can use the front office phone.
How can families support in this area?
- Please support by not expecting your student to access their phone during the school day.
- Students can bring devices to school to let families know they have arrived or about after school plans. They just cannot access the device during the school day.
