We are bursting with pride as Mr. Brosius has been honored as Teacher of the Week by First Coast News! His dedication and passion for teaching shine through every day, and it's incredible to see his hard work recognized on such a platform.
Check out the inspiring interview where Mr. Brosius shares his thoughts on teaching at Yulee High and why it's the best thing he could ever be doing:
My Future Career Story
During the first semester, Ms. Hightower's 6th-grade Career Education students at Yulee Middle School published a book, My Future Career Story. Thanks to Student Treasures Publishing, these students are now published authors! 🙂 They each wrote a story about their future career and included a hand-drawn illustration. Ms. Hightower's career education curriculum supports ELA standards, and the goal of this project was to encourage and show students how ELA and Career Education writing skills intertwine across subject areas. It was also about giving students who struggle with their writing a chance to showcase their work as well, and they loved it! I'm so proud of all of them!
Animal Adaptations
Ms. Sanders's class has been learning all about animal adaptations in Science. This investigation taught them how environmental changes can impact animals or plants. Her students heard the story of peppered moths and how their adaptations helped them thrive or expire due to natural selection. The colors of their wings either helped them camouflage in with their surroundings or be seen and eaten by birds. Over time, the population of black and white peppered moths changed due to environmental events. Students were challenged to create a peppered moth that blended with their environment.
Read Across America
Yulee Elementary celebrated Read Across America week with loads of Dr. Seuss fun! The Library hosted a "Seussical Poetry Contest." Winners received a special gift from Ms. Solis. On Friday, all classes put their thinking caps to work on a one-of-a-kind scavenger hunt all across campus! It was a wild and wacky week!
ICT Digital Citizenship and Ethics
Yulee Middle School 6th graders recently completed the ICT Digital Citizenship and Ethics course. Students learned about the internet, what browsers are, and how to not lose data. They learned about creative commons and fair use rules when accessing other people’s intellectual property online. Students also learned how to properly write emails, and how to create digital calendars to help with organization and communication. To wrap up this course, students completed a collaborative poster that Overall, digital citizenship taught students how to be amazing global citizens, practicing safety while online, especially on social media.
