Coloma Junior High
Week of September 30th
Did you Know?
One thing that is important to us at the Junior High is that we want to ensure that our grades only reflect what our student's know about the content area. Part of that means that we want to eliminate any behaviors such as late work from our academic grades. We also recognize that those same behaviors are important skills as we develop young adults. Therefore we have Citizenship Grades at the Junior High. Citizenship Grades align with our CARE Expectations and students receive a rating from all of their classes in Citizenship. Students that demonstrate exceptional citizenship will have the opportunity to participate in rewards at the end of the marking period.
Citizenship is an extension of our Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS). In grades K-8 we utilize the C.A.R.E. Acronym - Come Prepared, Always Responsible, Respectful, Exceptionally Safe. We have spent the first month of school discussing what CARE looks like at the Junior High level. Can your child explain how things are different in the Junior High?
Halloween Dance - No Referral Party
We will be holding our annual Halloween Dance on Oct. 30th 5:30 - 7:30pm. Our Dances are considered No Referral Parties, which means that students qualify to attend by not having any discipline referrals from 9/30 - 10/30. This is a great incentive for students to demonstrate their CARE Expectations every day. We will release more information about the dance as it approaches.
Study Hall at the Junior High
The Junior High runs Study Hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Study Hall is supervised by our certified teachers that are able to support a variety of subjects. There is no cost to attend and no sign up required. Students only need to have their own transportation home at 4:05.
For safety reasons, all students will sign in each afternoon and unless prior arrangements are made they will remain in the classroom until dismissal at 4:05.
Students can use this as a safe and supervised place to work on homework, receive extra help, utilize internet to complete projects, or wait for transportation. All JH students are welcome to attend.
