To Our Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood Community Members:
Referendum Work Has Begun
With gratitude for our community’s role in this effort, we are pleased to report that facility improvements are officially underway at LFHS. The first hammer struck on June 10, and we are now just over halfway through our first summer of work.
The Enabling Phase
The first portion of the referendum work, the Enabling Phase, will run through June 2025. This phase includes developing schematic design, construction documentation, procuring vendors, and preparing flexible classroom spaces, a new security vestibule, and plumbing. All of this work will “enable” us to begin construction during the summer of 2025. You may read more about the Enabling Phase here.
Trades on premises include demolition, concrete, masonry, structural steel, aluminum, painting, drywall, ceramic tile, flooring, fire protection, plumbing, and HVAC. You can find more information on competitive bidding and board-approved contracts here.
Progress Highlights
Significant advancements have been made in transforming the three flexible classroom spaces, two “test” classrooms, and the Art Department, from open areas to fully framed rooms.
Furniture planning for these spaces is in progress, with special attention given to the new classrooms to ensure the best options for students and staff. Layouts, samples, and site visits are being conducted to finalize the remaining details.
Our test classrooms will serve as the proving grounds for the remainder of the referendum project. Based on these spaces, we will solicit student and staff feedback to create a finalized menu of furniture choices and other details for the rest of the building.
Plumbing work is also progressing well, particularly in the three-stack bathroom area (three bathrooms on three floors, developed simultaneously for efficiency), which will be ready for framing soon.
The west security vestibule is now fully framed, marking another milestone in our project.
