A Few Words from the Principal
Hello,
We are quickly approaching winter break. This is a time filled with mixed emotions for many of us. Help your student finish 2023 strong with being kind to others and understanding that their peers may not be having the same emotions as them. Being kind and supporting each other will help to make these last few days a success.
Upcoming events:
Winter Social - December 15 -
This is an after school activity sponsored by PTA that provides an opportunity to get together in a social setting here at MT. There is music for dancing, games in the gym. Lots of different things for students to do. See the PTA section or the flyer below for more information.
Supporting students to end the semester strong:
No TSP next week.
Everyday after school - Teachers available to help
The MTMS staff are available from 3:05 - 3:35 to assist students. Encourage your student to stay for a few minutes to get assignments done and turned in before they head home.
Wednesdays W.I.N. days -
Wednesdays for the rest of the year will be W.I.N. days to allow for students and teachers to have more time for reteaching and interventions.
Check your students eAgenda to see what they have coming up and what they are working on to help them plan for the help and support that they may need to do their best. If your student tells you they have submitted work electronically through Canvas you can always have them show you that the blue submit button on Canvas has been pushed. If you question if something has been handed on or not, have your student email the teacher.
Spirit Days
We want to make December one to remember with some spirit days

December 19 - Jingle Bell Day - Jingle through the halls with your jingle bells
December 20 - Mad about plaid - Wear Plaid - No hats
December 21 - Festive Sweater Day - No hats
December 21 is our last day and it is a half day with dismissal at 11:12 (See the schedule below)
Take care,
Jennifer Smith

Your Help Needed
Hey Parents of MT,
The MTMS yearbook staff needs your help increasing our student coverage in this year's yearbook. We are looking for the following photos and would appreciate you sharing your photos. Please use the HJ Eshare link to upload those photos safely and directly to the yearbook site.
We are looking for pictures to use in the yearbook of our 8th graders working on and/or receiving their driver's permits. If you have any photos previously taken or just recently taken, the yearbook staff would love to have access to those. We are mainly looking for photos of them holding their permit. We could also use pictures of them behind the wheel!

Wow! We are blown away by your generosity. Thank you to those who donated to the Holiday Gift Fund. EACH staff member took home a gift card this week worth $50. Staff also enjoyed a dessert bar provided by leftover donations. Thank you for making their holiday season merry. We hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing winter break.
Restaurant/Business Givebacks:
Thanks for recently having dinner with us at Raising Cane's and Fritz's! With your help, we made $360 at Cane's (stay tuned for the results of Fritz's)! Please save the date for our next restaurant fundraiser on Wednesday, January 10th all day, with KC area tradition - Johnny's! Relax and watch the game with dinner for a great cause. Please remember to mention Monticello Trails when you order.
Plus, you're invited to celebrate Kansas' 163rd birthday at Urban Air Lenexa from 4-8pm on Monday, January 29th! 20% of MTMS purchases of ultimate and platinum tickets will go to MTMS PTA. From Nurse K.
Illness, Covid and Influenza (the Flu)
Please report any symptoms of illness to the school.
Please be specific- report symptoms such as sore throat, nausea, and fever instead of reporting βillβ or βsickβ. Giving symptoms helps with Health Department Reporting and to see illness trends at MTMS and in the district.
The transition to chillier weather often comes hand-in-hand with cold and flu season, but healthy habits can help protect everyone from getting or spreading germs. As we enter cold and flu season, we appreciate you encouraging these healthy habits with your children.
- If you have a child who is sick, we ask for your support by keeping them at home. Students and staff must be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Β· If your student is diagnosed with Influenza (βthe Fluβ) or with COVID, they must remain at home for 5 days from the onset of illness, with return on day 6.
Β· If you have questions about your studentβs health, please contact your school nurse. Additional information regarding health and wellness is available on the district website.
Β· Remind your child of important preventative measures for any illness, such as coughing into the sleeve, frequently washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and getting plenty of rest and fluids.
