Dolphin Tales
A Newsletter for Dove Elementary Families
September 4-8, 2017
A Note from the principal...
We hosted our first All-School Assembly this past Friday to honor students who exemplified the IB Learner Profile attribute inquirers from each class at Dove. It was a great time for us to come together as a school community and not only recognize these students but also to recognize that ALL our Dolphins are what make Dove such a special place. We have the BEST students and parents around, and it has been a pleasure to get to know your students better these past two weeks. Great things are happening at Dove!
Proud to be your principal,
Heather Landrum

Volunteers Needed!
From PTA...
Dear Dove Parents,
Our annual PTA Membership drive is going on now! Joining online is super quick and easy - just go to www.joinpta.org and follow the steps. Membership is open to both parents, students, grandparents, and anyone who wants to support Dove PTA. It takes about two minutes to join, and membership dues are just $10.
Our PTA directly benefits every single student and teacher in our school. We provide support and funding for a wide variety of activities through out the school year as well as many special projects. Over the summer, we were able to purchase a SCHOOL SET of headphones. Every student will be provided with headphones to go with their iPad or Chromebook courtesy of Dove PTA. Dove PTA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and all of the funds we raise through membership dues and fundraising efforts goes directly back into our school, our students, and our teachers. We reimburse our teachers for money they spend out of pocket for their classrooms, PTA funds all class fields trips and class parties, plus much more. Like I said, PTA directly benefits every single student and teacher in our school, so please support Dove PTA by becoming a member or renewing your membership from last year. Joining PTA is NOT a commitment to volunteer. Simply joining and paying the $10 in dues helps us tremendously. We are nothing without our members, and we appreciate your support! Join online today!
We are so excited to announce that we are launching a brand new Spirit Shop for all of our Dove Dolphins! We will have lots of super fun stuff for your kids AND you! You can even get a head start on your shopping by ordering one of our BRAND NEW Spirit Shirts online today!
We have 3 brand new designs in both Adult and Youth sizes. Show your Dove Dolphin pride and GEAR UP!
Be sure to follow us on Facebook @DoveElementaryPTA and on Twitter @DovePTA to stay up-to-date on everything we have going on at the school!
We have also just launched a Facebook and Twitter page for our Dove Dads' Club so be sure to follow us there, too! Find the DDC on Facebook and Twitter!
Thank you for supporting Dove PTA!
Sincerely,
Sarah Carlock
Dove PTA President
David's Law
Mrs. Golden will continue to talk with students about the seriousness of bullying and share information about the law, especially as it relates to social media and things they might post about another student. Please reiterate with your student the importance of not posting hurtful things about other people, as this can become a disciplinary issue at school as well as a legal problem if it's serious enough.

Birthday Treats Policy Change
I wanted to let you know about a campus-wide change regarding birthday celebrations. We love to celebrate our students and staff throughout the year; however, we want to be mindful of health guidelines and restrictions that could impact some of our dolphins. GCISD Health Services encourages and recommends that birthday treats be non-food items, so beginning with this school year, we will not permit food treats to be left at the receptionist desk in order to be delivered to the classroom.
We are not making this change because we don’t want students to be able to celebrate their birthday; we are being mindful of the health and safety of all students. Parents are more than welcome to deliver non-food items such as goody bags filled with pencils, erasers, stickers, gel pens, bubbles, etc. We also would welcome a book donation to the library in the name of your student.
I understand that this is a change from previous school years and we appreciate your cooperation as we make this shift moving forward.
I am looking forward to a great year of celebrations at Dove!
