Principals Message:
Kia ora whaanau,
The last week of term has been a great week, despite the cold weather students have been engaged in a number of activities outside. On Tuesday the Year 10 students held their market day as their final part of their business unit. This unit of work has given our students a taste of what running a business is like, developing an item to sell, gathering stakeholder information, advertising and promotion, production, and customer service.
The students have started their practises for the jump jam house challenge that we will hold next term. These events always highlight one of the special characteristics of our school with students from Year 1 to Year 13 learning alongside each other.
Our positive behaviour day is on Friday. Students have earned their non uniform day and their sausage sizzle. They are also well on their way to earning the activity in the afternoon. A big thank you goes to Mad Butcher in Pukekohe for providing the sausages at a low rate. Sausages will be handed out at the end of period 3.
Last Friday night we held our 6th annual Matariki awards at Te Kotahitanga Marae. It was great to see whaanau and community members attend the event and support our students in celebrating Te ao maaori. Thank you to the marae and whaanau for doing the catering, the food was delicious as always.
Have a great break and we will see you all in the new term.

Message From The Board Chair:
I was privileged to attend Matariki at Te Kotahitanga Marae on Friday and share in the celebrations with our students and teachers. It was inspiring listening to the various pepeha spoken so well by our students as young as 5. It is no easy feat standing up in front of a crowd and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves. I would like to thank the teachers and students involved in arranging the event, and our community for their support.
We will be starting our out of zone enrolment process in term 3, and looking to offer 50 spaces for students across the various year groups (excluding year 10 where there are no spaces available). If you, or any other parent are keen to enrol an out of zone student could you please contact our office staff to complete the relevant forms. You do not need to wait until we open the ballot and I would encourage you to enrol now. Please spread the word, as we are committed to filling these spaces and sharing our fantastic school with more students for 2022. To find out more about the out of zone enrolment process please click on the following link: https://onewhero.school.nz/enrolment-zones/
As always please reach out to me with any questions.
Regards,
Owein Greaves

Fast and Furious 5 “Pukekohe Push”
After an amalgamation season of 11 aside hockey with Strathallan, the magnificent seven went to Pukekohe to embark on a fast 5 Hockey tournament.
Northern tundra like conditions did nothing to dampen the spirit of Onewhero hockey, under the misty spotlights of the Counties Manukau hockey centre our enthusiastic players went undefeated.
Our first epic was against the South Auckland power house of Alfriston college. In the words of lightning McQueen, “I am speed”. A flying start and seven goals in a first half that set the tone for the rest of the tournament. Epic saves from Connor Nicholson, who is a fearsome and brave goalie. Sam Gaunt was tireless and caused all sorts of problems for the defence. Dylan Joy ran hard, was always available to turn defense into attack and had endless attempts at goal, converting many. A professionally conservative second half, where accurate passing saved energy for future games, leaving us with an 8 - 0 margin. Tidy.
The second pool match was against a team that had beaten us in the regular season, many opposition players are known to the team and it was played with a great sense of fair play and camaraderie, Eden Christian School was about to test our resolve.
Our most improved player of the year is Lani Martin, who has developed her defensive skills and is reliable and enthusiastic in her first year of hockey, well done Lani.
Aaron Watson had a great game and covered in defense and attack, showing a willingness to be a complete team player, passing with accuracy and running with boundless energy. By the end of the tournament he would have many assists and a couple of goals as well.
A tough tussle ensued, with the team in blue winning out 6 -3.
Only the slimmest of margins of goal difference kept us out of the Gold medal match. So now we faced Eden’s top team for the bronze. Manager extraordinaire Nic Nicholson’s many contributions also include snakes and a welcomed extra in freezing conditions.
Great umpiring from an unbiased Tyler Nicholson and injured defensive star Cameron Vickers who has had an amazing season. Connor had many great saves and in this game at a vital moment he pulled out a stop worthy of mention and a whack on the leg, it’s a goalie thing! Lance Watson saved his best game for last, he has grown in confidence all season, passing with authority, defending tirelessly and willing to do what's needed, awesome.
Sam and Dylan kept our noses in front with solid goals. Adam Kelly had his magic moment with the goal of the tournament, slick passing and a flying Adam finishing with aplomb. Back of the net, Goal!
Bronze! 6 -2
Many thanks to Nic and all the whanau supporters who are making my first season in Hockey and the team's season a brilliant experience.

Onewhero Daycare
Hi, for a number of months we have been working towards re-opening the Onewhero daycare. We’ve renovated the building including putting in a Commercial Kitchen so we can provide meals. We’ve been through a Resource Consent process with Council so that we can offer places to under two year-olds which weren’t previously available. We’re also extending the operating hours to full-day care to cater to working parents. We’re working really hard to make this a high quality centre.
We’re now starting to hire staff to help us on that journey. You can find the job advert to apply online either by searching on keyword ‘Dandelions’ at www.seek.co.nz or you can find the job advert link on our Facebook page DandelionsAndDragonfliesOnewhero and follow us there for future updates.
