Notes from Dr. Raeder
Get Involved! This is my message to all students. High school represents a short period in a student’s life. Make the most of it! Have your student join an athletic team, participate in a fine art activity, and attend games, concerts, plays, and other school events. As a Patriot Family, we need to support each other. Additionally, students who are involved with a school event tend to do better in classes and find more enjoyment in school.
With over 75 clubs, sports, and activities LHS has something for everyone. If a student is not able to find an activity of interest, have your student talk to an administrator about starting a club. Perhaps other students have similar interests and your student can make connections with other LHS students. Help your student brainstorm ways to get involved at LHS.
Another way to get involved and show your school pride is to participate in Red Letter Days. This is our Homecoming week. Homecoming is Sept 30th-Oct 5th. Students will have different activities to attend during the week and we will finish the week with a school-wide pizza feed, pep rally, and dance. Go Pats!

Salsa is for Everyone!
Get involved in your community with SALSA? We aren’t dancing the night away, but we do have snacks and we volunteer SALSA (Serve And Learn Student Association) as a great way to connect with opportunities to serve your community! SALSA allows you to get involved through volunteerism, meet new friends, explore careers, gain leadership experience, earn volunteer hours for scholarship applications, and make a difference in your community. This next meeting we will work on wrapping candy bars for the Community Blood Bank and learn more about our next large group volunteer outing, Sidewalk Arts Festival Sept 7 and Cleaning up the Big Sioux on Sept 20, otherwise known as a SALSA-Wide Event, and other great individual opportunities!

2024 Presidents Bowl
The 2024 Presidents Bowl is in the works, and we are excited to celebrate the 33rd year of this amazing tradition! As you likely already know, the Presidents Bowl is the #1 fundraising event for ALL activities at our four Sioux Falls public high schools. These funds are used to support dozens of student activities, including music, academics, drama, debate, athletics, yearbook, and so much more. It is the largest independent effort to support all four schools and the best opportunity for the Sioux Falls business community to come together and demonstrate their financial commitment to our students’ academic and extracurricular experiences.
