PUKEITI & KAITAKE TEAMS
Pukeiti Rua
Annie and Penny have absolutely loved getting to know all the tamariki in Room 15. We have completed an art project ABOUT ME, where we went to the “big kids” art room to do the crayon and watercolour background. It’s been a fun process discussing favourite things to do and learn, come and check out the finished product up on the walls Room 15.
We are both impressed by their commitment to reading, writing and maths. Everyone continues to make progress from our daily practice. We have been playing some fun nature connection games for P.E that require teamwork, communication skills, speed and agility along with recognising some patterns in nature. We play Run, Rabbit, Run! Rob the nest and Fire in the Forest. There are two more to learn by the end of the year though swimming is in full swing now
Room 22 have been enjoying our school farm and the Ōkato playground, which are community resources. We have been able to assist in planting native trees at the school farm under the direction of Whāea Jane. We have also spent time investigating shapes at our playground. We had a great time and discovered many shapes in strange places.
POUAKAI & TARANAKI TEAMS
Kia ora e te whānau,
As we approach the end of the year, there’s a lot happening at our kura, and I’d like to take a moment to update you on some key events and developments.
Student Leadership Interviews
Next week, we will hold interviews for selected students who have applied for Head Student leadership roles in 2024. We are incredibly proud of the courage and dedication shown by those who have put themselves forward to serve our kura in this way. We look forward to seeing their aspirations for leadership in action!
Athletics Day
Our Athletics event is also taking place on Tuesday next week, and we’re excited to see our ākonga participate with enthusiasm and energy. This is a great opportunity for students to come together, showcase their talents, and celebrate teamwork and perseverance. Casey Stevens is taking the lead on this event and will share more information.
Year 10 Activity Week and Sleepover
In Week 9, our Year 9 and Year 10 students have an exciting week to look forward to, including an optional overnight stay at kura for the Year 10s. This sleepover will incur a small charge, and more details will be sent home shortly. It promises to be a fun and memorable experience to mark the end of their junior school years.
Subject Selections for 2024
We understand that many of you are eager to begin planning for next year. Due to ongoing teacher recruitment, we are finalising the specialist subjects we can offer in 2025. Subject selections will be confirmed and communicated as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process.
Modified Sports next week
We’re thrilled to share that Andrea Dingle and Casey Stevens will be taking a keen group of our Year 9 and 10 students to participate in the Taranaki Secondary Schools Association’s Modified Sports Week. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage in a variety of sports and represent our kura.
Here’s what’s planned:
Monday: 4 Rippa Rugby teams will compete.
Wednesday: 3 Netball teams will take the court.
Thursday: A modified beach sports day at Ōākura, which has generated a lot of student interest.
To ensure these events run smoothly, permission slips are essential and need to be returned as soon as possible. Without these, students won’t be able to participate.
We’re also seeking parental support for transport on the day. If you’re available to help, please let us know – your support is greatly appreciated!
This is an exciting opportunity for our ākonga, and we look forward to seeing them give their best in these events.
Thank you for your continued support as we navigate these busy and exciting weeks.
Maths
Mathematics is humming at Coastal Taranaki. Students enjoyed a varied programme full of ‘Old Fashioned’ but modern workbook approach - for a solid programme, mixed with Digital Mathematics through IXL and additional digital programmes. The Mathematics quizzes, games and competitions kept Math fun and supplied learning styles to suit all students.
Our results have been very positive; with year 9 and 10 covering all areas of the curriculum - preparing them for pathways of Algebra and Calculus and/or Statistics at senior level. Welcome to year 7 and 8’s who have been participating in extension Mathematics activities as a
taster for Secondary Mathematics. I look forward to see you all in 2025
All our year 11 students who started with us at the beginning of the year gained their Numeracy. All accomplished their 10 Mathematics internal assessed credits and most sat at least one external exam.
Our cup challenge winner for 2024 was Cypress in year 11 with an outstanding fast time of 10.49 seconds.
Remember to check out our Mathematics Website for Coastal Taranaki School. It has awesome resources, workbooks and tutorials to help your learning, from year 9 - year 13. The site is updated regularly and Includes Pixel Art and some Christmas Tree Tessellation activities to prepare you for the festive season.
Happy holidays and enjoy the break.
