Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANKS
Dear Farley Families,
After 22 incredible years with the Hudson Public Schools, it’s hard to find the right words to say goodbye. As I prepare to leave my role as Principal of Farley, I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for your unconditional support. Thank you for cheering me on, for believing in me, and for standing beside me through it all. You’ve helped me grow—not only as an educator and a leader, but as a person. Your kindness, generosity, empathy, and willingness to give your time and energy have shaped this school into the special place it is.
Together, we’ve built something beautiful. I’ll never forget the laughter and joy of Fun Days, the excitement of our cultural celebrations, or that unforgettable moment when I got slimed (more than once!). These memories—made side by side with you and your children—will live in my heart forever.
We also weathered some of the hardest days imaginable—together. We survived a global pandemic as a school community. We adapted, supported one another, and made it through with courage and grace. That experience reminded me just how resilient, compassionate, and strong this community truly is.
I am eternally grateful for the incredibly meaningful gift of the Little Library that Home and School surprised me with during Night of the Arts. As a former English teacher, this is an absolute dream come true. The plaque with my signature phrase, “read always,” is one of the most meaningful tributes I’ve ever received. There are no words to describe how thankful I am for this gift that will keep on giving—for years to come. Knowing that children will continue to discover stories, imagination, and joy through reading at that very spot fills me with deep pride and gratitude.
You welcomed me into your lives, trusted me with your most precious gift—your children—and made me feel like part of your family. And now, as I say farewell, please know that I will miss your kids the most. They are the light of this school, and the reason I loved coming to work every single day. While this chapter of my life is coming to a close, I leave knowing that Farley is in excellent hands. Ms. Johnson is a thoughtful and dedicated leader who shares our love for this community. I have every confidence that she will continue to nurture and guide Farley with care and strength.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being a part of your children’s journey. I am humbled to know you and I will carry you all with me—always.
With endless gratitude and love...Read Always,
Rachel Scanlon (she, her, hers)
Principal

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
CONGRATS MRS. PAQUETTE AND MR. JOE!
Each year, the Hudson Public Schools gives out awards for exemplary work. Any staff member in the entire district can nominate individuals for these honors. This year, members of the Farley staff nominated Heather Paquette for Administrative Assistant of the Year and Joe DiFolco for Custodian of the year. Because they got so many nominations both of them won! It was an honor getting to present them with their awards last week at the "HPS Evening of Celebration". Congrats again to Joe and Heather!
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
THIRD GRADERS SHOWCASE THEIR SKILLS
Today, Mrs. Page held another musical event with our grade 2 and 3 students. For the first time, Grade 3 students got to showcase their recorder skills and play for our second graders. To say the third graders were impressive is an understatement. The second graders looked on in awe! Below are a few short videos and pictures from the performance. I hope this becomes a yearly tradition.
YEARBOOK SPOTLIGHT
YEARBOOKS FOR SALE!
Special thanks this week goes to caregiver Rachel Chow Phair for her amazing work on our Farley yearbook. Putting together a school yearbook is no small feat. It takes months and months to create and perfect. Rachel did an impeccable job!
Every year, Home and School purchases all grade 4 students a yearbook to take home as a keepsake. All grade 4 students get to design a potential cover for the book and then staff blindly vote on two pictures they think would be best for the cover. Congrats to Maya Caze and Abbie Andrade for having been selected. Their drawings show lots of Fox pride.
If you have a student who is grades PreK-3 and you would like to purchase a Farley yearbook, please email farleyyearbook2025@gmail.com. The price is $20 cash or check (written to Farley Home and School Association) to the main office.
NEW PRINCIPAL SPOTLIGHT
A MESSAGE FROM NEW PRINCIPAL JOHNSON
Dear Farley Caregivers and Staff,
I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the incoming principal of C.A. Farley Elementary School. It’s a privilege to join such a vibrant, caring, and committed school community that reflects my beliefs about equity, belonging, and student success.
Over the next few months, I’ll be focused on listening, learning, and building relationships. As part of my entry into Farley, I’ll meet with families, staff, and students, visit classrooms, and review school data to understand what’s working well and what opportunities we have to grow together.
As part of my entry, I’ll host separate meet and greets events for staff and families. These informal gatherings will allow me to hear your thoughts, answer questions, and share the vision for our work. I look forward to connecting with all of you at these events:
Caregivers: June 4, 2025|6pm
School Committee: June 10, 2025|7:00 pm
I’m also asking for your input through a short survey. Please take a few minutes to share your perspective. Your voice will help shape my understanding and inform our priorities moving forward.

I look forward to getting to know you—whether in the classroom, the front office, at arrival or dismissal, or during one of our spring family events.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Farley community. I can’t wait to begin this next chapter with all of you.
With all Children in Mind,
Principal Johnson

SUBARU GRANT SPOTLIGHT
THANK YOU MCGOVERN SUBARU!
Once again, McGovern Subaru in Acton, selected Farley (for the fourth year in a row) to be the recipient of one of their Subaru Loves Learning Grants. Each year, Subaru teams up with Adopt-A-Classroom.org to donate funds to schools across the United States with funds to use next year. Six teachers have volunteered to be in charge of the $3,000 they gifted to us. They plan to use it to increase our STEM materials. Please read the following reminders from Ellen Schuck, the district's Head of Technology:
Aspen Parent Portal accounts are automatically created for new families at the beginning of the year. An email with account information is sent to a child's first contact. If you have not logged into your Aspen Parent Portal account and need help with your credentials, please fill out an Incident IQ ticket-directions can be found in the next paragraph. The district technology department will be happy to assist you.
The Technology Department uses a ticketing system for reporting all problems with hardware and software (Chromebooks, iPads, Aspen, student Google accounts, etc.). We ask everyone to complete an online ticket instead of sending an email.
- Parents can submit a ticket using the online Guest Repair Form.
- Students in Grades 5-12 are encouraged to use Incident IQ. You must sign into the program using your @student.hudson.k12.ma.us Google account.
