CHARACTER COUNTS – "I AM SOMEONE PEOPLE CAN COUNT ON"
- The Character Counts trait of the month for K-5 students is Trustworthiness.
- Elementary students that demonstrate honesty, courage, and reliability show that they are trustworthy.
- Those students build a strong reputation for being loyal and standing by their friends, family, school, and country.
- They do not deceive, cheat, or steal.
PRINCIPLED - "I STRIVE TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT IN EVERYTHING I DO"
MYP students that demonstrate integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice, and respect for the dignity of individuals, groups, and communities are being principled. They take responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences that follow.

We will celebrate the nominated students that are being recognised for demonstrating our K-5 Character Counts! Trait of the month or the MYP IB Learner Profile Attribute during our special event for invited families only.

It’s time for SOCK-TOBER! Throughout the month of October, our National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) is supporting our local community by collecting new socks for the Broward Outreach Homeless Shelter. All donations should be placed in the box located outside of the Art Room (Room 201). Thank you in advance for your support!
The 2024-2025 Franklin Story Yearbook is currently on sale! You can purchase your child's pre-sale copy online, with special offer prices available for a limited time. The last day to purchase a yearbook is January 31, 2025—no sales will be made after this deadline.
- The F.A.S.T. Family Portal access codes will be reset this month with new credentials.
- PPK-8 families will receive an email with their child's updated FAST access credentials once the state has completed the reset.
Our Safety Patrol Pinning Ceremony has been rescheduled to Wednesday October 2, 2024, at 8:45am, due to the emergency school closure on Thursday September 26, 2024, when the eceremony was originally scheduled for.
Only invited families will be in attendance.
- On Thursday, October 3, 2024, there is no school scheduled for students and our offices will be closed.
- Classes resume for all students on Friday, October 4, 2024, and our offices will re-open and resume office hours.
Attendance is always important, but it’s especially critical during FTE Week, which runs from October 7-11, 2024. Student attendance directly impacts our school’s funding, and we want to ensure we receive the maximum support for our students. Let’s aim for perfect attendance together!
Additionally, please have your child ride their assigned Maranata Bus School Service bus, if they are eligible. Student bus attendance also contributes to our school’s assigned funding.
Students are invited to participate in our daily athemed attire during Spirit Week!

- The last day of Q1 Clubs will be on Friday October 11, 2024.
- Quarter 2 Club Registration will open on Wednesday October 2, 2024, at 7pm, and close on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 11:45pm.
- The first day of Q2 clubs will begin on Monday October 21, 2024 and will end on Friday December 13, 2024.
- Communication about your child's club will be shared by their club moderator.
PARENT/GUARDIAN SERVICE HOUR PROGRAM
- PPK8 families and FA staff received a reminder that completing 8 service hours each academic year is a key part of maintaining enrollment at Franklin Academy. The service hour window opened on July 1 and will remain open until June 30.
- To check service hours, parents/guardians can log into the PowerSchool parent/guardian portal, select their child's name, and click on the "Family Service Hours" link. This will show their SHID (Service Hour ID) and the total hours completed. Initially, all families will see a zero, but summer hours (performed on/after July 1, 2024) will be updated after the first academic quarter ends in October.
- Parents with multiple children should repeat this process for each child. If any children have different SHIDs, families should contact Mrs. Valerie Torres, Director of School Operations, via email at torres.valerie@franklin-academy.org to correct this.
- There will be no school for students on Monday October 14, 2024, and our offices will have limited assistance available due to the mandatory attendance for staff trainings.
- Classes resume for students on Tuesday October 15, 2024, as well as our offices resuming regular office hours for assistance.
Fox-Mar photographers will be on campus Thursday, October 17, 2024, to take individual photos for students who missed/were absent/not enrolled for our Picture Day last month, or that need a portrait retake. These photos will be available for purchase, included in the yearbook, and used for student ID cards.
Students must wear their official uniforms; PE uniforms are not allowed to be worn for the picture.

BROWARD READS FOR THE RECORD
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading event, promoting early literacy and social-emotional development. Over 19 years, more than 28 million people have participated, and millions of high-quality books have been distributed to children through this program.
This year’s book is Piper Chen Sings by Grammy winner and Tony-nominated actress Phillipa Soo, Maris Pasquale Doran, and illustrated by Qin Leng. The story follows a young girl named Piper, who loves to sing but struggles with self-doubt and nervousness when asked to perform a solo. With encouragement from her Nai Nai, Piper learns to embrace her "butterflies" and finds the confidence to shine on stage.
Kindergarten students will participate in an interactive read aloud on Thursday October 24, 2024.
"LIFE IS A MOVIE, FILM DRUG FREE"
We’re excited to announce the 2024 Red Ribbon Campaign Theme, "Life is A Movie, Film Drug Free." This year's theme inspires individuals to play their part in fostering safe, healthy, and drug-free communities. From healthcare professionals to educators, parents, and beyond, the theme highlights the collective impact achievable through dedication and commitment.
FIELD TRIPS
- Eligible students in Grade 8/MYP Y3 will go on a Snorkel Safari on Friday October 4, 2024!
- On Monday October 21, 2024, eligible Kindergarten students will visit The Berry Farms!
- Eligible Grade 7/MYP Y2 students will go on Key Largo Kayaking on Wednesday October 23, 2024!
