About FIRST Lego League Challenge:
Friendly competition is at the heart of FIRST Lego League Challenge, as teams of students grades 4 - 8 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. They also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem utilizing the design cycle.

Library Card Sign Up
The AMS Library and Pitkin County Library have been working closely together this year to create some really fun events and opportunities for our students.
On November 21st and 22nd, we will be hosting a Library Card Sign Up Event! Both the Pitkin County Library and Basalt Regional Library will be participating. Youth Librarians will come to visit all grade levels and give presentations about all of the things you can do with a library card or at your local library besides just checking out books.
Some other great things students will have access to with a library card include:
- Reserve books through the library's catalog- if your local library does not have the book your student is looking for, they are able to borrow it from almost any other library in the state and have it brought directly to your local library for pick up.
- Download digital media
- Access to more databases for research/projects
- Use library computers
- Rent a librarian! - reserve time with a librarian to learn research techniques to help on their projects/papers
The libraries also regularly hold amazing free events after school for teens like movie nights, decorating events, community teen classes (recent examples include Bookbinding for Beginners, Girls Who Code, and Paint Like Bob Ross) and book clubs (snacks provided!). Overall, they provide a safe and caring landing spot for students to be outside of school.
November 21st: 5th and 6th grades
November 22nd: 7th and 8th grades
Parent permission slips to sign up for library cards may have already started making their way home with your students. Please help your student fill out an application to your local library. They can either return a paper copy to Kassandra in the AMS Library or you can send it via email to ksandev@aspenk12.net. Once applications are processed, we plan to hand out your student's new Library Card after Thanksgiving Break.
