Traveling "Guac Star" is Making His Rounds!
Since Mr. Potato Head and his companion book, Supertato, was a hit last year, we decided once again to celebrate the end of state testing and the end of the school year with another traveling book promo!
Paired with the book Bravo Avocado, our "Guac Star" is making his rounds to the classrooms. Teachers are encouraged to read the book aloud to their students, mark their name off the list found on the back of Mr. Avocado, and move him to another teacher's room. Teachers then hang a sign outside their classroom door that reads "We have been "Guaced" by the "Guac Star!"
Bravo Avocado is a picture book about self-discovery and the value of uplifting one's friends. It is filled with clever food-based puns and vibrant illustrations.
Since he is life-sized, it is kind of hard to ignore or forget about the "Guac Star"! From all reports, students are enjoying the book and having Mr. Avocado join their class for a day or two!
A huge shout out to Library Assistant, Jenny Armstrong, and Alice's hubby, Mark Reinert, for creating Mr. Avocado! Both Jenny and Mark "guac"!
May the Books Be With You!
Students put their names in the hat to see which student (one from each class) was the lucky recipient of a Star Wars giveaway (see display above). Giveaways included tee shirts, socks, cups, sketch pad kits, temporary tattoos, sticker books, Star Wars books, pencils, pens, bubble tubes, bounce balls, Princess Leia's Buns (honeybuns), Lightsabers (Twizzler licorice sticks), and bookmarks.
We have several Star Wars series in our library appealing to all ages and reading levels. Our newest series is in Graphic Novel format, and it is very popular with the students.
The celebration was a fun way to greet the month of May!
We Love Our Volunteers!
When asked what they enjoyed most about volunteering in the WE library, they all had a common theme to their responses--"I love getting to interact with the students and the adults, and it keeps me busy!"
We appreciate our faithful volunteers who show up weekly, rain or shine. We couldn't do what we do without their help and commitment. Thank you, Sharlene, Judy L, Patty, Judy S, Allison, and Cheryl. You're the best!
Judy Liezert works at the circulation desk where she checks students' books in and out.
Patty Jolley shelves books. Lots and lots of books!
Judy Schultz copies and cuts out bookmarks, one of the many behind-the-scene tasks that our volunteers help with.

StuCo Celebrates Earth Day with Rolling Hills Friends
Great things can happen when one generation mixes with another! After school on April 23, twenty-four student council members went to Rolling Hills Health Center to celebrate Earth Day and springtime with the residents. Students helped their elders decorate a pot and plant a flower to take back to their rooms to enjoy. After the flowers were planted, the picture books, card games, and coloring pages came out! When it was time to leave, one student was overhead saying, "But I don't want to go!" It was a great experience for all involved!
Even Our New WE Mustang Mascot Loves to Read!
