Time: 8:00 am (check in begins at 7:30 am)

Grades: 10th and 11th-grade Poway High students will have priority in registering and purchasing exams.

9th graders, please fill out the Google sheet here: 9th-Grade Waitlist. If we have availability, we will notify you the week of September 30.

Cost: $30, non-refundable

Purchase Window: August 28 – September 27, 2024, during break and lunch at the Finance window. ***Only 300 seats available, first come first serve! ***

Register and Pay:

• Online payment at Titan Payment Web Store or CLICK HERE. (10th and 11th-grades only!) please select Poway non ASB under the school and select Clearing.

• When purchasing on the web store, please purchase one test using your student ID.

• Finance Office (credit cards, Apple Pay, cash, or checks payable to Poway High School).

Deadline to Register and Pay: Friday, September 27, 2024, at 4:00 pm.

5.5 Classes for Trimester 1 begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Follow these steps to sign up for a 5.5 Class:

Step 1:

5.5 Class Schedule Tri 1 - Click on the class name on the 5.5 Class Schedule and enter the student’s information. Your student will receive a 5.5 Student Contract from their 5.5 teacher during the first week of class

Step 2:

5.5 Class Student Contract Tri 1 - Please complete the 5,5 Student Contract and submit the hard copy to the teacher by Friday, September 6, 2024, to be enrolled in the class.

5.5 Period Classes are optional for PHS students. Students earn 2.5 elective credits per each 5.5 class taken during the trimester (two classes maximum), and grades are given on a pass/fail basis. Should you have any questions, please contact BB Surarujiroj via email at psurarujiroj@powayusd.com.

If you are interested in Robotics, have skills that are shared on the flyers, or a skill that you think will be valuable for our teams, please come to a FIRST Robotics Information Meeting on September 4 from 5-9 pm to PHS Room N3-207. FIRST Robotics accepts PHS students, homeschooled students, and students from other schools.

STEM is for everyone, and we welcome you! We also have a Women in STEM club within Team Spyder!

Poway High's Back to School Night will be held in person on Tuesday, September 10, from 5:30-7:40 pm. Parents will have the opportunity to attend a counseling presentation; hear from Principal Nash, ASB, the PTSA, and the PHS Foundation; learn about clubs; watch performances from Poway Cheer and Poway Dance Project; and visit their students’ classrooms.

Parking on campus is limited. Shuttle service will be provided from Lake Poway. Shuttles will begin running at 4:45 p.m. and continue running until the end of the event from the main parking area at Lake Poway. Shuttles will take you back to Lake Poway immediately following the event.

Follow the Back-to-School Night schedule to visit each of your student’s classes and meet their teachers.

To access your student's schedule:

1. Click on Link to Student Portal - this will take you to "My Plan" page.
2. Once you are at the “My Plan” sign-in page, use your student’s ID # and password to sign in.
3. You will be directed to a page with various icons. Click on the CANVAS icon.
4. Follow the Back-to-School Night schedule to go to each of your student’s classes and meet their teachers.

Dear Titan Families,

This is a reminder that if your child rides a bike to and from our school, they (and one parent/guardian) will be required to attend a PUSD ebike safety class this Fall. The first of these classes is coming up in September. If you cannot attend one of these classes, additional classes will be scheduled in October (dates TBD). To provide students ample time to comply, this new requirement will be enforced starting January 6, 2025.

You can attend any one of these one-hour classes that work with your and your child’s schedule, regardless of where you are located. Advance Registration is not required. Again, one parent or guardian must attend with their child. At the class, you will be asked to register the make and model of the ebike, VIN#, and student ID, so please come prepared with that information.

Due to recent state budget cuts, Poway High School is facing an urgent need for basic classroom supplies. Essential items like markers and staples are no longer covered by the current budget. We, the Poway High Foundation, are a group of concerned parents like you, dedicated to raising the necessary funds to support our school.

We also recognize that facilities need to be improved for students. Because PUSD has significantly reduced our school’s budget, it becomes the responsibility of parents to enhance our children’s learning environment. Our vision is to add inviting and functional outdoor areas where students can gather, study, and relax.

Your students may have recognized exciting improvements to the library in the last year, which we provided. We hope to continue these improvements in the next phase to create a modern, dynamic space that fosters learning, collaboration, and innovation.

How can you help your student? Donate to the Poway High School Foundation here. Your contribution, no matter the size, will have a profound impact on our students’ educational experience. We also offer monthly donation options online.

The Science Department would like to highlight our two new teachers. Our chemistry teacher, Alexandra Crosby is working with her students on experimental design using the iconic "Elephant Toothpaste" experiment. Mrs. Crosby demonstrated the elephant toothpaste reaction for her class, and then asked laboratory groups to manipulate a variable that they believe may increase the reaction size. Over in Human Biology is our new teacher, Breanna King. Mrs. King is currently introducing her class to human organs systems and having her students explore variations in cell types. This past week, the students conducted diagnostic tests and compared images of a patient's stomach tissue to determine whether the patient had ulcers, gall bladder disease, and/or gastric reflux. Next up, they're using artificial blood samples to learn about homeostasis!

Seniors! If you still have not yet scheduled your senior portrait with Keane Studios, please make an appointment within the next few weeks. Only portraits taken by Keane will be used in the yearbook. If you have not yet scheduled, you should have received an email from the studio with a link for the account the studio already set up for you. Poway Rotary Parade - September 14 (parade begins at 9am)

Students can get community service hours signed off by Poway Rotary

Volunteer check-in will be at the Poway Library entrance - must sign up on Poway Rotary Parade Volunteer Page

Morning set up report time 6:30am

• Put up signs, tables, EZ -up shades at the Grandstand starting 6:30am (rotary would love to have school teams or clubs volunteer along with individuals)
• Assist with any needed duties between set up and take down
• Tear down signs, tables, EZ-up shades at approximately 11:30am at conclusion of parade

What to wear

• Comfortable shoes for active work on pavement
• Sunscreen and hat are recommended; be sure to hydrate the day before and during the event
• Parents/family are welcome to volunteer as well

Juniors, you only have until 9/18 to apply.

Please see the recruitment information for this year’s candidates for Northrop Grumman’s High School Involvement Partnership (HIP) Mentoring Program. for year 1 students. We have not yet heard how many guaranteed spots will be open to PUSD students this year.

Some key points to consider for potential candidates:

• Students must have at least a 3.0 unweighted cumulative GPA
• Students must be able to prove US Citizenship (dual citizenship may not be approved, per Northrop Grumman)
• Students must commit to virtual meetings monthly at 4:30pm on Wednesdays (NG asked that we make sure it is clear to students that only two pre-approved absences are allowed.)

College visits start Monday, Sept. 9th. Most college visits are during lunch or break in the Titan Center Room K-16 or Library Room L-13. College admissions representatives from universities across the country will visit PHS to give short presentations to interested students about their admissions process and scholarship opportunities. This is a great opportunity for students in all grade levels to learn about different colleges.

Students can sign up on our school website, under the Counseling > Titan Center College & Career > College Visits or click here to view now. We are adding college visits every day. Please encourage students to frequently check for updates.

PHS is offering the ASVAB exam on Nov 7th at 8:35am. If you are interested, please stop by the Titan Center or sign-up using the link below. Students 16 years and older are able to take this assessment. This is not just for joining the military. If you are curious about find a job that would be a great fit for you, then you can take this exam as a career assessment. We will have a workshop on December 3rd to review the results and discuss different career path options.

PUSD high school students (9-12th grade) are invited to the PUSD College & Career Fair featuring nearly 100 representatives from colleges, universities, trades, and military. Please note if a test center decides to close, students will receive direct notification from the College Board. You can register for the SAT at the College Board website here. You can register for the ACT at the ACT website here. We will have more information for the PSAT in August 2024.

Join us in giving our Titans the very best in 2024-2025! Memberships are $15 per person and are offered to anyone interested in supporting PHS - parents, caregivers, students, teachers, staff, grandparents, etc. Joining and donating is easy to do online by clicking this link or scanning the QR code.
