ILearn Testing Continues - Important Dates!
Southport Middle will continue with ILEARN testing next week. We had a great week of testing - let's keep it up! Please insure your students have a good night's sleep, come to school with a fully charged chromebook and headphones/corded earbuds, if they so choose. It is also helpful, if possible, to not schedule appointments during the testing hours of 8:30-10:06am each testing day.
The following are the remaining all-school SMS ILearn dates:
- Monday, April 28
- Tuesday, April 29
- Thursday, May 1

Summer School 2025 - Transportation Deadline 4/28/25
Southport Middle School will host an extended learning opportunity during the first few weeks of Summer Break. This additional learning opportunity will focus on Language Arts and Math skills, and will be delivered in a unique and interesting way in order to help students grow as thinkers and problem solvers. This program will occur June 2-12 (Monday -Thursday) from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.
Breakfast and lunch will be served to students every day. To ensure students get the individualized attention they need, we will attempt to ensure class sizes are small with an appropriate teacher to student ratio.
To accept this invitation to Summer School, please use this GOOGLE FORM SIGN UP. The deadline for signing up is Monday, April 28. Transportation will be provided for those students and parents who sign up prior to this date.

Around the District
Attention 8th grade students!
Do you like singing and dancing? Have you always wanted to perform on stage? If so, now is your time to shine.
The Southport High School Theatre Department will hold auditions for their FALL musical, "Seussical", on Wednesday, May 21st. This audition date is exclusively for current 8th grade students. Auditions will take place in the SMS Auditorium at 2:45.
Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can dance in. No theatre or performance experience required - auditions are open to every 8th grader.
Candidates MUST pick up an audition packet from Ms. Edwards in the SMS library in order to prepare for the audition. Packets are now available. They contain rehearsal information, availability applications, sample monologues for candidates to memorize and music to rehearse for the audition. You are encouraged to pick up a packet as soon as possible.

Summer Camps
Indiana Sheriffs' Association 2025 Youth Leadership Camp
The Indiana Sheriffs' Association will be holding its 2025 Youth Leadership Camp this summer.
This 3 day camp will provide an unforgettable summer adventure that’s both fun and packed with learning!
Students will have the chance to engage in activities that include:
- Leadership Training
- Crash Simulation
- Simulated Pistol Training
- Obstacle Courses
- Swimming
- Recreation and Sporting Activities
- And so much more
This camp is open to ALL current 7th and 8th graders who are interested in learning more about a possible career in law enforcement. Students can choose from one of the two sessions being held in June for $25. Applications and fees are due directly to the Indiana Sheriffs' Association by June 1st. Applications with specific dates and locations can be picked up at the Main Office or in Student Services. Additional information, including a printable application, can be found on the Indiana Sheriffs' Association's Youth Leadership Camp Information Website.
Don’t miss this opportunity to challenge yourself, develop valuable leadership skills, and make new friends alongside some of Indiana’s finest law enforcement officers.
For current 7th graders - Nineovations is a hands-on summer camp designed to spark curiosity and help students explore different career paths. Campers will choose one of seven unique camp experiences, each led by Central Nine instructors, where they’ll tackle exciting projects, try out cool tools, and get a behind-the-scenes look at these awesome careers!
