PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Barbara Jordan Elementary School Community,
We hope this message finds you well. As we embark on another exciting month of learning, we want to emphasize the importance of a few key areas that are crucial for your child’s success and our collective goal of achieving a 95% student attendance rate.
1. Consistent Attendance: Regular attendance is vital for your child’s academic progress and social development. Each day of school is an opportunity for learning and growth. By ensuring your child attends school consistently, you help us meet our district goal of 95% attendance, which is essential for maintaining high educational standards.
2. Daily Reading: Encouraging your child to read for a few minutes every day can significantly enhance their literacy skills and foster a lifelong love of learning. Whether it’s a book, a magazine, or an educational website, daily reading helps improve vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking.
3. Adequate Rest: A good night’s sleep is fundamental for your child’s overall well-being and academic performance. Ensuring they get enough rest helps them stay focused, alert, and ready to tackle the challenges of the school day.
4. Open Communication: Maintaining open lines of communication with your child’s teachers is crucial. It allows us to work together to support your child’s learning and address any concerns promptly. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to teachers with any questions or updates about your child’s progress.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can create a nurturing and effective learning environment for all our students.
Sincerely,
Mr. Leiva

RAINY DAY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE FOR STUDENT WALKERS
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE FOR STUDENTS THAT ARE WALKERS:
- A CALLOUT WILL GO OUT TO INFORM YOU OF RAINY DAY DISMISSAL (only if it is raining heavily and lightning)
- North Walkers (students walking towards Bellaire Blvd) will be picked up in the back car rider line.
- South Walkers (students walking along West Oaks Village Dr. towards Westmoor Dr.) will be picked up in the front car rider line.
This procedure will be in effect only on days when you receive a rainy day dismissal notification.
If your child is a walker and you haven’t picked up the car rider tag for rainy day dismissal, please visit our front office to collect it.
If you have any questions please call 281-634-2800.
PBIS Clubs
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our PBIS Clubs! After every fourth week, students will have the opportunity to select a PBIS Club of interest, which will take place on the Friday following the fourth week.
Club Selection Process: All students will identify up to three clubs of interest after every fourth week. This helps us ensure that most students can participate in a club they are passionate about.
Discipline Policy: Students with four discipline infractions and interventions documented by BJE staff in the PBIS tracker within the four-week period will attend the Social Club. This club focuses on providing strategies for making better choices and coping mechanisms to reduce the frequency of discipline infractions.
Club Examples: We have a variety of fun and engaging clubs, including Lego Club, Dance Club, Art Club, Craft Club, and more!
We recently held a PBIS Clubs assembly, and the students are all excited about the upcoming opportunities! We will be sharing more information soon and seeking assistance with volunteers and materials/resource donations for the clubs.
Thank you for your support!

STUDENT ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Every day at school is a new opportunity for your child to learn, grow, and shine. Let’s make each day count together!
- Texas public school students must attend school at least 90% of the time a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade.
- If a student has three or more unexcused absences, days or parts of days within a four week period or ten or more days or parts of days within a six month period, they are considered truant.
- Excused absences in Texas public schools count as absences, but they don't count against a student and they don't count toward truancy. Excused absences are counted as if the student attended school for purposes of calculating average daily attendance.
