Principal's Message
Dear Garden Road Families,
This week, we had a surprise visit from the Grinch! Students and staff like were thrilled by this visit! Many holiday parties were held and good times were had! I wish you all a restful winter break with plenty of time to enjoy your families and fun activities! See you in the new year!

Library Corner
On the cusp of the holiday break—which allows for a ton of screen use—it's important for all of us to unplug and unwind. Connecting with loved ones, being creative, exercising, being in nature: These are just a few of the ways we can care for ourselves and feel nourished and rested. And we can also cultivate digital well-being.
Here are some ideas to help:
Remind kids to have device-free moments over break, and to pause for people!
Give kids the skills to check in with themselves around tech so they have a sense of how to self-regulate.
Help kids understand how devices and platforms are designed to take advantage of those feelings of pressure.
Explore the concept of thinking traps and how social media can create and maintain patterns of thinking that increase feelings of pressure.
Incorporate quiet time and short meditations that kids can practice at home.
Offer screen-free activities and support the offline skills that increase attention and focus.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah & Happy Holidays,
from your friendly neighborhood librarian,
Tuhina Lal

PS: If you are traveling, please leave your library books at home. The best place for it would be the school backpacks!
