Kindergarten Dates to Know
Starting April 1, families with children entering kindergarten in Park Hill in August 2019 can enroll their children in their assigned school. Hopewell Elementary families will meet at the Gerner Family Early Education Center.
Children who turn five on or before July 31 are eligible for kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. After you enroll, mark your calendar for the Kindergarten Roundup event at your assigned elementary school on April 29 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Final Early Release Day
All elementary schools will have an early release once a month for our teachers to receive professional development focused on increasing student success. Students will be released at 1:30 pm. Our final early release day of the year will be: May 9.
Each early release day, we will celebrate our school by wearing our Line Creek SPIRIT WEAR!
Start Times Will Not Change Next Year
Based on overwhelming feedback from our Park Hill parents, staff members, students and community members, we will not change our start times for the 2019-2020 school year.
“The Board and the district care deeply about our families, and we hear what they are telling us,” Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Cowherd said. “We still have a problem to solve, and I believe we can all solve it together.”
Feedback:
We actively listened to your feedback about our proposed new start times. We received almost 1,800 survey responses in Park Hill Listens, including more than 1,100 comments and suggestions.
Almost all of those comments expressed concerns about our plans. We also received more than 120 questions, asking for more information about the problem we were trying to solve and the solution we had proposed. Many of the questions and comments centered on the idea of later start times for high-school students.
Next Steps:
We will stop and take some time to develop a new plan to address the issues caused here in Park Hill by the ongoing, nationwide bus driver shortage. We will also study the impacts of later high-school start times on students’ academics and opportunities.
As we figure out our plans, we will share a timeline for the process, we will consult with our families, our staff and our community, we will make accommodations in the budget, and we will publicly share all the complex issues that factor into this problem and any potential solutions.
Continuing Problem:
This means we will still have frustrating challenges because of the nationwide shortage of bus drivers. In addition, we will open two new schools this fall, which means we must stretch our limited number of bus drivers over even more routes.
Until we have a better solution to the problem, we will continue our efforts to help First Student improve this issue for our families.
Moving Forward:
“We appreciate our Park Hill family, and we appreciate everyone’s support as we try to find the best possible solution for Park Hill,” Dr. Cowherd said.
Be a Foundation Member in Honor of Someone Special
Did you know our district has an Education Foundation? Our school has benefited greatly over the years from the Park Hill Education Foundation grants. In fact, our school has received 8 grants worth $8,846. The more funding the Foundation has, the more money gets put into our classrooms.
If you join today, your support will honor the exceptional work of our teachers and students. If you join before the end of April, $5 will go to the District PTA Clothing Center, and you will get a personalized window cling! Membership is only $30 a year and our students and teachers will feel the impact.

Park Hill Stars
The Park Hill Star recognition program was started in 2015 to celebrate support staff and teachers whose work is especially noteworthy.
The following is an overview of the Park Hill Star Program:
Our employees are the reason we are so successful here in the Park Hill School District, and we would like to recognize them for all they do for our students.
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee.
Parent Feedback - Measurable Results Assessment
Thank you so much to the 122 parents who have already taken Line Creek’s Leader in Me survey! As part of our re-certification process, we need at least 200 responses by the end of April. Thank you for taking a few minutes to click on the link and give us your feedback!
Synergizing...
Habit of the Month - Synergize
This month your child(ren) will be learning about Habit 6: Synergize
Please read about this habit and share this habit at home.
Synergize is when two or more people work together to create a better solution that either would have thought of alone.
1. With your children, choose a problem you may have (like bedtime or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child’s solution and your solution:
(1) Define the problem.
(2) Share your views.
(3) Think of solutions.
(4) Choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (the High Way) than either of you would have come up with alone.
2. Institute a “15-minute program” where everyone drops what they are doing and pitches in to work as a team to clean the kitchen, pull weeds in the garden, wash the dishes, sweep the front porch, etc. Cutting out a small block of time where everyone helps makes the work go quicker.
3. If your child has siblings, ask each to identify what they think their brother or sister is really good at, then share the lists with each other and discuss how they could Synergize on homework, chores, playing games, sports, etc. If your child does not have siblings, you can do the same exercise using his or her best friends—or you.
Line Creek Elementary Communication
You will find several ways to stay up to date on school activities throughout the year on the Line Creek website, Facebook, Twitter and newsletters from your child’s teacher. You will also occasionally get an automated email or voicemail message sent to you by the school with important information and reminders. We know two-way communication is best, so please feel free to call, email, or stop by the school with any questions you may have regarding your child’s education.
