The Year of Celebrations

June 10-14, Last Week...

Dear JCS Families,

As this is my last JCS Journal, I would like to wish this wonderful community all the best moving into the future. I have loved my time helping lead JCS, and have gotten to know many wonderful students, staff, and parents/guardians. JCS is truly a special school with traditions both old and new. It has been my honor and great pleasure serving as your Principal for the last three years.

As we wrap up this school year, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the many staff, parents, and community members who have given their time and love to make JCS amazing! Without mentioning specific individuals, I think we all can think of many of you reading this who have gone above and beyond in one way or another to enrich the experiences of kids and adults in the JCS community. One quick note of thanks to Mrs. Polillio for being a great interim Assistant Principal (25 years later...)!

From honoring the traditions of JCS past such as PBIS work, JC Solmonese Day, Memorial Day assemblies, and end-of-year celebrations, to developing new traditions such as Houses, Electives, Sea Turtles, Adventure Games, and Artists in Residence, JCS is poised for a great future. It is up to you all and those who follow to keep the magic going. Mr. Barrette is a great Principal, and I look forward to passing the torch as he leads the community in ensuring that JCS is the BEST!

Important Info

End of Year Plans

The end of the year at JCS will include the following. Please note well June 13th and 14th as they are a bit different than other schools.

June 10- Preschool "Graduations" with families. (Last day for Little Lancers is June 7th.)

June 11- Grade 3 Picnic

June 12- Grade 3 Celebration (with families)

June 13- Half Day for all students K-3. K Screening in morning. Breakfast and bag lunches served.

June 14- No Kindergarten classes. Half Day for Gr. 1-3. K Screening in morning. Breakfast and bag lunches served.

Last Week at JCS

Adventure Games

We can't thank the staff who organized and set up, and the parents/guardians and staff family members who came and ran all of the events! 32 stations in the morning and afternoon needed over 100 people to make the events work, and believe me, they worked!! Despite some rain in the afternoon, both Adventure Games were tremendously fun and engaging for our kids!!

Students are eager to hear their House's results (Bronze, Silver, or Gold medals), and they'll find out during morning announcements tomorrow.

SPO NEWS!

SPO Bylaws Committee:

The SPO has put together a committee to review and revise the current bylaws. We are looking for volunteers to join the committee. We are also looking for parents with a legal background to help us with revisions. If you are interested please send us an email at SPO.JCS@gmail.com.

Playground Committee Lead

We are still looking for a parent or caregiver to lead the JCS Playground Committee now and into the 2024-2025 school year. This role would keep the discussions going between Dr. Marcus and the new JCS Principal, along with the Director of Facilities. The SPO already has 3 possible playground options, but we need to ensure that we follow the process for implementing the project and engage the JCS community to truly make the new additions work for all children.

Summer Reading

The SPO is excited to share that they have kept the Summer Reading tradition going! Each JCS student went home with a book, at their reading level, last Thursday or Friday. If your child did not come home with one, please check with your child's teacher.

SPO Monthly Meeting

We hosted our final meeting of the year last Thursday, June 6th.
