Message from Principal Haugens
March in a PAWsitive Direction: During the month of March, DuJardin will focus on PAWsitivity as an entire school. Students who show PAWsitivity have a chance to earn a PAWsitivity ticket. The PAWsitivity ticket will be placed in a drawing for weekly prizes and recognition on morning announcements. If students earn enough tickets by the end of March, there will be a whole school recognition/incentive. How do you earn a PAWsitivity ticket? Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Caring, #LeadLikeAJaguar.
Disability Awareness Week: DuJardin will be celebrating Disability Awareness Week with color days next week. Please refer to the flyer for more information or click here.
Report Card Information: The second trimester ended last week. Report Cards will be emailed to parents on Friday, March 17, 2023. This is also an Early Release Day for first - fifth grade students.
5Essentials Survey: Students in 4th & 5th grade will take the 5Essentials survey next week. The students survey is very similar to the parent survey. Have you taken the 5Essentials survey yet? DuJardin needs 20% of the parent community to take the survey in order to receive results. We currently have 12% participation (up 2% from last week). Let's see if we can get to 20% by the end of March. Click here to take the survey.
PTO SKATE NIGHT: Tonight is the PTO Roller Skating Party at Coachlite from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 & there is a $4.00 skate rental. CASH ONLY! All students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please do not drop students off unattended. Refer to the flyer below for more information.
Spirit Day & Lights Out Day: The next Spirit Day is Friday, March 24, 2023. It is also a Student Council sponsored Lights Out Day: To conserve energy and have a little fun, classes will spend time throughout the day learning with the lights off. Students are encouraged to wear all black to "absorb" the light as well as bring a flashlight to use while working. It costs 25 cents to participate.
5th to 6th Grade Transition Night - May 11th: Current 5th Grade students and their parents & guardians are invited to visit Westfield Middle School on Thursday, May 11th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm for 5th-to-6th Grade Transition Night. 5th Graders will begin the evening with Westfield Student Council members and will be provided a short presentation and a tour of the building. Parents will begin the evening in the West Gym and will be provided a presentation by Westfield Administration and Staff highlighting the unique aspects of middle school. Following the presentations, parents will have the opportunity to visit with staff members, tour the building with their child, and visit our Book Fair. More details will be shared prior to the event. We hope to see you at Westfield on May 11th! Sincerely, Westfield Staff & Student Council

5Essentials Survey
The Bloomingdale SD13 participates in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey that collects feedback from our students, teachers, and parents. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will give you the opportunity to share your thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness. The responses will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide our improvement efforts. All responses are confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Parent Survey is currently open and will remain so through March 11, 2023. To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey.
All Bloomingdale SD13 teachers, as well as students in 4th - 8th grade, are being asked to complete this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. Teachers will work with students to assist them with logging in and taking the student survey.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
We value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your input.
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.
Lead Like a Jaguar
At DuJardin, we want students to become leaders who model a positive attitude (growth mindset), set and achieve positive goals, understand and manage emotions, show empathy for others, and make responsible decisions (solve problems). Teachers will be using the Second Step curriculum & other resources to help ensure our students #LeadLikeJaguars.
Focus for January 9 - March 7th: Empathy & Kindness: Students learn how to recognize kindness and act kindly toward others, how to develop empathy for others and take others’ perspectives, and how to act with empathy.

Message from Nurse Rosero
Nurse Email: jrosero@sd13.org
Student Needs:
Please inform the nurse of any allergies or sensitivities to foods, medications, and environmental allergens. If there are any pertinent details of your students' health that you feel the nurse needs to know, please reach out and discuss this with the school nurse. This information can be helpful to better support your student throughout the day, if certain situations arise.
About Your Student’s Medication:
The district's medication administration policy mandates that all medication to be administered at school requires an MD order, this includes over-the-counter medications. Students may NOT keep over-the-counter meds in their backpacks or in their lockers--including cough drops, Advil, etc. This is an important safety concern! Please review the policy included in the registration process.
If your student requires an inhaler, Epi-Pen, or any oral medication, please obtain the medication form and appropriate health care plan from your physician when your child has their exam. Forms may also be obtained on the district website.
Excused Physical Education Class:
Please note that all PE excuses need to be sent to the Nurse's Office. A parent may excuse a student from PE for up to 3 days. (consecutively) Thereafter, a Doctor's note is required.
Calls home from the Nurse:
Phone calls home are warranted in the event of a head injury, minor or major
All in school sickness including fever of 100.4 (oral) or greater, vomiting and/or diarrhea
Please prepare to keep your child home until:
Fever-free for a full 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
Vomiting and diarrhea has ceased for a full 24 hours
Please refer to the General Health Guidelines which can be found on the district website
If you chose to have your child tested for COVID while here at school a NEW consent form for this year must be filled out. Consent Form for Minor
