PRESCHOOL NEWS
What special clothes do people wear? This was the final focus question of the preschool clothing unit. In order to find an answer to this question and to celebrate everything we learned about clothing, preschool classes had a formal tea party! The students dressed to impress and practiced proper table manners, while sipping on lemonade. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in party snacks!

KINDERGARTEN NEWS
The month of March began with a school wide Dr. Seuss Spirit Week for Read Across America. All of the children had a great time participating in activities that made reading even more fun! It was evident that kindergarten students are growing their reading and writing skills. The students are practicing their reading skills every day and trying to build their accuracy, fluency, comprehension and stamina. It takes a lot of work and practice to become a strong reading “superhero” but we are trying our best. Please make sure they are practicing their sight words at home and reading each night to support their developing skills. March also has brought fun themes like St. Patti's Day, rainbows and weather to our kindergarten classrooms!

FIRST GRADE NEWS
First grade is learning about the life cycle of plants. This week we will be sampling how we eat different parts of a plant. In the next few weeks we will be learning about pollination. The children will be completing an experiment using cheese doodles as the pollen. The first graders will be reading to start their gardens at the end of this unit.

THIRD GRADE NEWS
Third graders have started reading biographies! One of the popular biography series is the Who Is/Was books. It is a series of illustrated biographies for young readers featuring significant historical figures, including artists, scientists, presidents, inventors, etc. These books are written in a fun and engaging way, making history come alive for kids. Readers are learning about a person's achievements and how they overcame obstacles. Third graders are creating Google Slides to highlight the person that they are studying. Biographies are a great way to introduce kids to history, different cultures, and amazing people who have shaped the world!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS
Students have been doing a variety of activities on Phys Ed the last couple of weeks. They learned different variations of kickball games, cooperative games, and other team games. This week students got to do an activity called PEER Puzzles in which they used giant foam puzzle pieces and had to work together to build what was on their card. They also did some St.Patrick's Day themed games.
March 22, 2024 is 6th Grade Activity Night at KRHS! Permission slips were sent home and must be returned to Mrs. Earley by Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Any questions please reach out to us

NEWS FROM PINWHEEL
Congratulations 4th and 5th Grade Pinwheel Students!!
The 4th and 5th grade Pinwheel students have been working on their mock trial cases for the past few months. It has been a lot of work and a lot of fun, too! At the end of January, their cases were entered into the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Law Fair Competition. This competition is a mock trial competition for grades 3-6. We received news that both classes are WINNERS! The judging committee only selects 12 entries from all over the state. 4th grade earned Honorable Mention and 5th grade earned 2nd place for their grade levels!
All of the winning teams are invited to perform their cases at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick. The students will experience a real court room with a real judge and a jury of peers from all over NJ! This project was challenging for the students and they rose to the occasion. Throughout the process, the students showed amazing effort, creativity, and teamwork! We are so proud! Congratulations to our 4th and 5th grade students on this amazing accomplishment!

5th and 6th Grade Pinwheel Students Attend Water Summit at Kittatinny
5th and 6th Grade Pinwheel Students attended the KRHS 8th Grade Kaleidoscope Water Summit on March 7! The regional event was developed by the 8th Grade Kaleidoscope students and their teacher, Mrs. Ellen Kolonoski. The Kaleidoscope class was selected as a Youth As Solutions grant recipient through the National Youth Leadership Council for this school year and they have been working on their service learning/leadership project since October. 5th and 6th grade students, from all of the schools in our region, collaborated in teams to learn about the scarcity of safe drinking water around the globe. They rotated through 8 different stations from the Water Cycle Escape Room and Water Feud to designing a water filter and discovering how much water is used to make everyday products. It was an amazing event that challenged our students to think more deeply about water on Earth. A special thanks to Mrs. Kolonoski and the 8th Grade Kaleidoscope students for hosting such a wonderful event! (Group Photo with Mrs. Kolonoski and the 8th Grade Kaleidoscope Students IMG_4843.HEIC)
