Parsons Pirate Update
October 14, 2024
Principal's Message
Hello Pirates Family,
Thank you to the PTO, the Gibraltar Fire Department, and all of our volunteers for making our Fun Run a HUGE success. Students absolutely loved it and I have received numerous requests already for us to do it again next year. The funds raised help provide additional opportunities and resources at school. We already have a BMX bike assembly booked for the spring!
Our next PTO Family Event is our Trunk or Treat on October 24th from 6:00-7:30. This is a free event and we hope to see everyone there.
Sincerely,
Sarah Aherne
Color Fun Run!
Two Proposals on the Ballot
"Absentee ballots are now available! Make sure you flip your ballot over to vote on the Gibraltar School District's Non-Homestead Operating Millage Renewal and Sinking Fund Renewal and Restoration. More information about the proposals can be found by clicking HERE. "
Attendance
Sadly, we had no classes with Perfect Attendance on Friday. Hopefully, we can finish next week strong before our Autumn Break.
Mileage Club
Mileage Club will started this week and will run up until November 20, 2024. Eventually, Mileage Club will start back up again in Spring 2025. Each Mileage Club morning is weather dependent, of course. If it is raining, or the weather is unsafe for runners to participate, that day's Mileage Club will be cancelled. Proper cold weather attire is recommended on days it is chilly. The course is the track located behind our school. Start time is 8:00 AM sharp. We will be on the route until the school doors open. Students will track their mileage each day they participate.
PBIS-Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports...
1. Creates and maintains a safe and effective learning environment
2. Ensures all students have social skills needed for success at school and beyond.
3. Provides a proactive system-wide framework for implementation
The purpose of PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behaviors are the norm.
Town Hall
We had Town Hall on Monday. At this all school assembly, we discussed how we did with our monthly focus of Be Respectful. Students received Student of the Month awards, Golden Awards, and grade level winners were drawn for Pirate Gold. Fifth grade leaders Emerson and LJ were our emcees. Let's get ready to Be Kind this month!

Our front doors will open at 8:38 for students to enter the building. School dismissal is staggered so younger grades will come out first.

Free Lunch and Milk FAQs
A full lunch is FREE.
If your child, wants to just get a milk, they must purchase one. There must be money in their account prior to purchasing. Milk is 50 cents.
I know this sounds so confusing. This is a government rule because they want to encourage full healthy lunches.
All this to say...if your child wants a milk, you probably just want to encourage them to get a full lumch.
Visitors in the Building and Background Checks
Although we love to have visitors, we remain committed to your children’s safety. Students must enter the building themselves in the morning. Parents and guests must always check in the front office.
As we start to have volunteers in the classroom, please remember that you must have a background check prior to your volunteer date. You can fill out the form and bring a copy of your license to Ms. Veronica. Once approved, you may volunteer. We do background checks twice a year. If you have a felony, you may not volunteer for WatchDogs, field trips, or volunteer in the classroom.
School Safety
All doors are locked during the school day. If you come to school, you will be buzzed into the foyer area. You will be asked to show identification before your child is released. All visitors/volunteers in the building must report and sign in at the office. Visitors must wear a badge in the school building. All volunteers in the classroom and for field trips must have a background check on file each year. If you have a felony, you may not volunteer for WatchDogs, field trips, or volunteer in the classroom.
