Career Spotlight – June 2025 Edition
Wrapping Up a Year of Exploration, Engagement, and Inspiration!
As we close out the 2024–2025 school year at Methacton School District, we’re proud to look back on a year filled with meaningful career-related programs that inspired and empowered our students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
From hands-on experiences and guest speakers to career fairs and industry tours, our students were given countless opportunities to envision their futures and explore exciting possibilities.
I'm Dr. Shab Maffei, your K–12 Career Counselor, and I want to thank our amazing community, staff, and industry partners who helped make this year's programs such a success. We're already excited for the 2025–2026 school year!
Here’s a look back at this year's highlights:
🔥 Fire Department Recruitment Field Trip & Assembly
On May 29, high school students traveled together to experience a live Fire Department recruitment event, hosted at Arcola Intermediate School and the local firehouse. Students explored careers in fire service, heard from professionals, and engaged in hands-on activities.
A special thank you to both the Lower Providence Fire Department and Worcester Volunteer Fire Department for making this experience possible!

Junior Achievement for 4th Grade
All 4th grade students participated in school-day workshops that built foundational skills in financial literacy and career awareness.
Monthly Career Café – Skyview Upper Elementary
Each month, 5th and 6th grade students met local professionals during informal career chats, exploring new industries and opportunities.
STEAM Day – Arcola Intermediate
Held on March 21, students explored cutting-edge careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through activities and exhibits.
Career Advisory – Methacton High School
On April 2, students received one-on-one and small group guidance from career coaches and educators to help plan their futures.
Job Fair – Methacton High School
On April 4, students connected with local employers, explored job opportunities, and practiced professional communication.
Career Day – Skyview Upper Elementary
Also on April 4, students enjoyed a full day of guest speakers and interactive sessions that introduced them to diverse career paths.
Financial Realities Fair – Methacton High School
Held on April 23 for 11th and 12th grade finance students, this simulation gave students real-world experience managing personal budgets and navigating adult financial decisions.

Thank You for a Great Year of Advisory Committee Meetings!
Thank you to everyone who attended our Fall 2024 Advisory Committee meeting at Methacton High School and our Spring 2025 meeting at Skyview Upper Elementary. We had strong participation from students, families, educators, and community partners — your feedback and support continue to shape the future of our career programming.
We especially appreciated hearing directly from students about their experiences with the Real Live Leaders program and other career initiatives throughout the year.
Both meetings were a success, and we’re grateful for the collaboration and enthusiasm shown across the district.

Congratulations to Methacton’s Rising Stars!
Taya Tuggle, Averi Stewart, and Theodore Baker were honored as Rising Stars by the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce during Black History Month for their leadership and achievement.
They joined fellow students and business leaders at a special breakfast on February 27 at Montgomery County Community College.

Thank You for a Successful Financial Reality Fair!
Our Financial Reality Fair was a huge success, and we want to extend a big thank you to Montco Works and the Police and Fire Federal Credit Union for partnering with us to make it all happen!
Held at Methacton High School, the event gave students a fun, hands-on simulation of adult financial life — from budgeting and managing expenses to planning for the unexpected. It was an eye-opening experience that helped build essential financial literacy skills.
💬 Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and we hope to offer this event again next year!
Thank you also to the incredible volunteers who helped guide our students through the process — your time and enthusiasm made a real impact.

STEAM Day at Arcola Intermediate School
Arcola’s STEAM Day 2025 Was a Huge Success!
We’re excited to share that Arcola’s annual STEAM Day, held on Friday, March 21, 2025, was a fantastic event filled with innovation, creativity, and hands-on learning!
Students had the opportunity to engage with professionals, educators, and community members who shared their passion and expertise across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. From robotics and electric vehicles to drama and design, it was an inspiring day that sparked curiosity and imagination throughout the building.
A big thank you to all our presenters and volunteers who made this day possible — your time and enthusiasm had a lasting impact!

Calling all Juniors: Pre-Career Course for Senior year.
Is your child interested in an internship while a MHS student?
Seniors are able to take a course called Pre- Career for either Semester 1 or 2. This will give Seniors an opportunity to intern at a place of their choice during the school day, all while earning school credits. Pre-education interested students may be placed with the assistance of the K-12 career counselor in respective Methacton Elementary Schools!
Pre-career applications are due by April of their Junior year. School counselors can assist students further with these requests.
Become a Volunteer Host for Methacton School District’s Pre-Career Activity!
Methacton School District invites professionals to host 12th-grade students for a career exploration program. This opportunity helps students gain real-world experience and make informed career choices.
Program Details:
- Credits: 0.5 per semester
- Total Hours: 40
- Grading: Pass/Fail
Volunteer Responsibilities:
- Host Students: Offer a 40-hour experience in your profession.
- Mentorship: Guide students through tasks and projects.
- Supervision: Ensure students meet professional standards.
- Documentation: Verify student logs and progress.
Host Guidelines:
- Availability: Accommodate a student for 40 hours per semester.
- Engagement: Provide practical experiences and feedback.
- Communication: Coordinate with the K-12 Career Counselor.
- Safety: Follow all safety and regulatory guidelines.
How to Get Involved:

- Provide Info: Share details about your organization and experience offerings.
