Middle School Matters

The Mission of Portsmouth Middle School is to create a strong and safe learning environment: promote social, emotional and physical well-being and to provide opportunities for each student, to the best of their ability, to meet high academic standards, develop responsibility, and achieve the positive social values and behaviors to become productive citizens.

At Portsmouth Middle School, we believe that school citizenship is an integral part of a student’s total educational experience. School citizenship is measured by eight key values: integrity, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, love of country, civic duty, and work ethic. The attainment of these attributes is invaluable to our students' future development and our community.

Congratulations to Olivia Almilli, Isabella Arbreau, Logan Collins, Rylee Canario, Amelia Davis, Effie Niewohner, Grayson Sanders, Paisley Steinmetz, Keegan Younger who were selected as Students of the Month for March.

Our Robotics Team wrapped up a four-week Elementary Robotics Club at Hathaway and Melville School last week. Members of our Middle School Robotics team volunteered as student mentors, teaching third and fourth about robotics. Students worked as teams to build robots and then learned the basics of coding. PMS students taught the importance of teamwork and collaboration, while also building relationships with future PMS students.

We are so proud of our robotics mentors: Amelia Cook, Serafina Ferrazzoli, Jack Lynch, Lincoln Squires, Samuel Moss, Milton Xa, Vaughn Bush, Cooper Haynes, and Quint Bertsch!

Special thanks to Ms. Medeiros and Mrs. Pritchard for overseeing our Elementary Robotics Club!

Patriot Pride is a system to recognize students who are meeting our school-wide expectations. Students are eligible to be Patriot Pride winners by entering Patriot Pillars they earn in their grade level collection container. A winner from each grade level is selected daily and recognized on our school-wide morning announcements.

Students receive Patriot Pillars when they demonstrate our school core values: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready to Learn.

When students arrive at 7:45, they are meeting our core value of "Be Ready to Learn". Thank you for helping your child be a responsible Portsmouth Patriot!

The PMS social justice club will be hosting a “Be The Change” fundraiser starting next week and going until June 1st. Each learning center will be collecting spare change in their social studies classrooms. The learning center with the most money collected at the end of the month will earn a special prize. Money will be donated to Team Atkinson.

Thursday, June 6th at 3:15 p.m. there will be a Fine Arts Boosters (FAB) Meeting in the art room.

Save and send in your Clement’s receipts in your child’s folder and sent to the main office. The PTO receives 1% of sales. There is no date too old. All Clements receipts will be taken as long as it shows Clements logo and pre-tax sales total.

Learn 365 Programming free for current 8th graders to learn about Maritime opportunities in sailing. Please click the link here for more information. Future Stars Recreational Summer Basketball League- is for boys and girls of all abilities, which will be held at Portsmouth High School. This league is comparable to a town league and more information can be found here

National Inventor’s Hall of Fame (NIHF) is once again offering Camp Invention virtual camp sessions at no-cost to military-connected students for summer 2024. Registrants MUST be children or dependents of active-duty military services, reserves or National Guard, and the opportunity is available for students in grades K-6.

Registration (invent.org/connect/dod-stem) opens 10am ET on May 1, 2024 and we have frequently see these spots go quickly!
