It is great to see everybody back to school and we have all enjoyed our first week though there are lots of tired faces today.

This is just a brief newsletter ahead of our fortnightly newsletter (coming out next week) which will be full of photographs and work for you to enjoy.

Please note children are to be collected from the car park gate.

We are moving to Instagram! Many parents do not use Twitter so we are moving to a platform more widely used which also will link with our Facebook account. Although we already hold photo permission we are tweaking the use so please ensure that you email us permission if you haven't done so already. If you have any questions please just feel free to contact us.

Our staff have also had a competition to develop a reading area which the children are eager to read in. Please get liking your favourite on our Instagram account (Swinefleet_pr) as the one with the most likes by Monday morning will win a prize.

Each week, 2 or 3 children will be chosen in each class to have the opportunity to bring home a Friday book bag. Within these are a little task such as our Poetry bags which the children can use as a stimulus for a piece of art. All of the equipment they will need is included and there is also a tasty treat inside which they can enjoy. We ask that book bags with all items (other than edible ones) are returned with the work your child produced by the following Wednesday. Their work will be displayed in a special class book in the hall and shared with all of the children in our Celebration Assembly. You can also take photos to add to their work which we will happily print off for you if uploaded to Seesaw/Tapestry.

Each pack includes instructions but please see the teaching team if you have any further questions.

We are holding a 'Welcome Night' on Wednesday 14th September. This will give you the chance to find out more about your child's class and ask any questions. Feel free to drop-in between 3:30 - 5:00pm. Feel free to bring phones/tablets if you would like help getting connected to our home learning sites Tapestry/Seesaw.

If you cannot attend the information will be on our class pages section of the website from Wednesday. You can also contact us to arrange a meeting or phone call with the teacher at a different time.

Next week, we will be holding our school council elections. If your child would like to stand for a position please encourage them to prepare a short speech to tell their peers why they would be a good representative.

We are changing how we enter and exit school after the changes we had put in place due to Covid.

Children will now enter school through the Pearls' tunnel (there will be an adult there on the first day for any unsure) and wait on the main playground. Parents are welcome to wait on the playground with them and we ask that young children are supervised. Staff will then come out to the playground to collect all pupils at the start of the day (8:45am). The door will be open from 8:30am. A member of staff will be on the playground with our breakfast club children.

Please note that play equipment is not for use at this time.

Children are to be collected at 3:30pm (unless on the bus or at a club) from the playground. We ask that parents enter through the car park gate and then the playground gate next to the main entrance. Children will be brought out to meet you and we ask that you then leave through the Pearls tunnel. There will be an adult positioned near the tunnel to ensure that all children leaving are accompanied or have permission to walk.

Breakfast Club children are to be dropped off at the car park gate as usual at 7:45am. There is no need to pre-book and children can attend on any days.

Bus Children will be met at the car park gate and will be taken out to the bus on an evening by school staff.

If you are happy for your child to walk home unaccompanied please let us know via email swinefleet.primary@eastriding.gov.uk

Unfortunately after the retirement of Mr Richardson, East Riding have currently decided that a crossing patrol is no longer needed. This is something that we have argued against and they will be coming to site to watch one morning or afternoon to assess need (I am currently trying to find out when and will keep you updated).

Please be mindful if your children need to cross the road that currently we have no crossing patrol.

We ask that children now attend school in uniform and bring P.E kit in a bag which should be kept in school all week. We will do our best to stick to our P.E timetable but sometimes it may be more suitable to change days so please ensure P.E kit is always in school and then taken home at the end of each week. Thank you.

Pearls (2 Year Olds, Nursery and Reception) - Tuesdays

Rubies (Years 1 & 2) - Tuesdays and Fridays

Diamonds (Years 3 & 4) - Mondays and Wednesdays

Sapphires (Years 5 & 6) - Mondays and Fridays

P.E kit should be a white t-shirt, and black shorts or jogger bottoms in colder weather. Children can bring a hoodie/jumper for colder months which should be plain black/navy/ red or can be one of our school hoodies.

Please note that jewellery should not be worn for P.E due to Health and Safety reasons. If your child has their ears pierced then please help them to remove their earrings on a morning before school if possible on P.E days.

All children from Reception to Year 6 are required to wear uniform.

This should consist of a red jumper/cardigan/school hoodie, white polo-shirt/shirt and black or grey skirt/trousers/shorts. Summer dresses or black/grey pinafore dresses can also be worn. Shoes should be black. Please avoid wearing trainers - if worn these must be black. Our uniform policy is available on the school website.

School logos do not need to be worn but if you would like to order logo uniform then please contact the school office.

Book bags can also be purchased from the school office.

If you think you are eligible for free school meals even if your child does not want school dinners then please do apply as we can offer support with uniform and free P.E kit. Mrs Risebury will happily explain how to do this so please feel free to give her a call.

Children earns reads for each day that they read at home/are read to at home. Only one read is counted each day.

This half-term the levels for reading will be as follows:

Bronze - 18 reads

Silver - 24 reads

Gold - 36 reads

Reading clubs are worth 3 reads and these will be start in Week 2.

Reads can be logged on Tapestry, Seesaw or on paper. We prefer reading logged online and ideally as a voice note or video so that staff can hear their reading and comment back. If your child is younger sharing a story with them counts as a read this means that it is accessible to all.

Our last reward was great fun with bouncy castles and lots of water!
