Salk Seahawk Scoop
Week of 11/3/2024
Halloween At Salk
Halloween was a great time at Salk! Thank you to all of the parents that volunteered in the classrooms with parties. It was great to see so many people at our Halloween Parade. Not only did we get to share our costumes with friends and family, but we paraded around Clinton Villa for the seniors to enjoy the Halloween festivities.
Salk’s Wall of Honor for Veterans Day
In honor of Veterans Day, we invite all students to participate in filling out the "My Hero" sheet, being sent home by their teachers. Each completed form will be displayed on our Wall of Honor, recognizing the courage, service, and sacrifice of friends and family members who have served.
Students can submit more than one form if they would like, and their heroes can be friends or family, living or deceased. Together, let's honor the stories and legacies of those who have served our country.
Thank you for helping us make this Veterans Day special at Salk.

Parking Lot Reminders!
A FEW REMINDERS:
* Please remember that the drop-off lane is not for parked cars.
* The bus loop is for buses only!
* If you want to walk your child to their door, please park in a parking spot and walk up together.
* The church graciously allows us to use their parking lot. Please do not park in reserved spaces.
Thank you for helping to create a safe parking lot for all our students!
Canvas- Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas LMS. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
All sign up information and resources are provided on the Fraser website.
Important reminders when using Canvas:
- Canvas works best in Chrome
- Please do not install the Canvas app (for parents or students). We are not supporting it as our staff and students are utilizing the web-based version of Canvas and it looks and works differently.
- If you signed up and paired with your students last year, you still have access to those students and their new courses this year.
- If you need to add more students to your account this year, please follow the directions provided below.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgot Password? link on the parent sign in page. Then, enter the email address you used to set up the account to receive a password reset email.
- If you have forgotten the email you used, please reach out to Kim Keith, Kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org, for additional assistance.
Downloadable directions are linked below. In addition, helpful videos and walk-throughs may be found linked HERE.
Unclaimed Lost and Found Items Will Be Donated Soon!
Our Lost and Found is overflowing, and with winter approaching, we need to make space for new items. If your student is missing something, please check the Lost and Found before Friday, November 8, 2024. Unclaimed items will be donated after this date to help clear out the area for upcoming winter gear.
Thank you for helping us keep our space organized
READY OR NOT- THE COLD WEATHER IS COMING!
We're starting to see MANY students bundled up each day, which is great! Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the winter.
Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 20 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Road Construction
The WB right lane of 15 Mile Road between Kelly Road and Garfield Road is anticipated to be closed November 5 through November 22 between approximately 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The lane closure is associated with a permit project. Please allow extra time and use caution.
Charlie the Therapy Dog
Charlie has made visits to Salk the last couple of years with great success. Students are happy to see him and he really brightens the mood. Charlie will make his next visit in two weeks.
Charlie's purpose is to ease student's anxieties and increase positive emotions. We do not want his presence to cause fear or anxiety. As a reminder, parents have the ability to opt out of having their student interact with Charlie. If you DO NOT want your student to be around Charlie, then please fill out the opt out form linked here.
For the safety of students with allergies and Charlie, he will not be in the lunch room. Charlie will also remain out of classrooms in which parents have a student who opt out. Charlie will be under my supervision and kept on a leash at all times.
Rules for Interacting with Charlie:
Use calm bodies and inside voices when around Charlie.
Always ask before petting Charlie.
Don't take food around Charlie/feed Charlie
ATTENDANCE MATTERS...
Minutes Matter too.
The bell to start the school day rings at 8:30 a.m. We have had a problem with many students arriving late to school. This not only affects the student who is tardy, but also has an impact on the rest of the classroom. Many important events take place at the beginning of the school day. When a student arrives late, they are missing out on important classroom assignments as well as important announcements. They also interrupt the learning environment for the rest of the students. Please make every effort to assure your student starts the day off in positive way by getting them to school on time.
We have also have an increasing number of students leaving early daily. We dismiss at 3:30 PM unless otherwise noted. Students withdrawn early also miss on daily instruction and interventions. They also disrupt the learning environment. Please make every effort to schedule appointments outside the school day. We want to make sure all of our students are learning. Once we reach 3:15 we may not be able to dismiss your student early. With the many moving parts at the end of the school day, it is not always possible to redirect a student to the office at that time.
SACC Update
Dear Fraser Families,
We are excited to announce that beginning Monday, November 4, the YMCA will provide daily snacks for our afternoon SACC program. We know how important the before and after care service is to our families and look to continue to grow our community partnerships.
Therefore, we are thrilled to provide these after school snacks at no cost to families. We believe that offering a healthy snack will enhance the experience for all children in the program.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Free Meals for All
Although not required, we do ask that families complete the Education Benefit Form located HERE. By doing so you help ensure the school receives additional funding.
