Ripon Cathedral School Update

Children in Need
Pyjamarama Day!
The Ambassadors organised a fun Children in Need Day. Many children came to school in their pyjamas for the day with some very impressive onesies and cuddly toys. All the children took part in the competition to design a brand new Pudsey mask. We had some fabulous ideas. During our celebration worship, the ambassadors announced the runner ups in each class awarding them a special pencil and a star badge. The winner in each class, received a pencil, star badge and a book of their choosing.
Well done. A super effort from everyone.
It is easy to give on our ParentPay site - thank you for all donations received so far.

Year 2 Visit to the Fire Station
Fire Station Visit
Year 2 went to visit Ripon fire station linked to our history topic of The Great Fire of London. We had such a brilliant time, it was educational and fun. The firefighters showed us their safety equipment and how it worked. We were shown how they access a fire hydrant once the 20 minute supply of water carried on the fire engine has been used up. The water pump used in 1666 was more efficient than we first thought as they showed us how the design was modified for being used today.
Each child had a turn squirting the hose, the off switch was a handle to enable easy shut off when wearing your safety gloves. The pressure was high so we had to hold on.
The Great Fire was recreated by us making model houses, the fire fighters ignited them to illustrate how rapidly the fire could spread. We learned about fire breakers and how destroying the houses helped stop the fire spreading.
“I enjoyed burning the houses down like they did on Pudding Lane.” George W
“I liked going in the fire engine, trying on the helmets and looking at all the equipment they use.” Ella
“I enjoyed squirting the hoses and putting out the pretend fires.” George Garner
“I enjoyed working as a team to pass on the bucket of water. We did it like that because that is how they got it from the sea.” Amelia
Friendship Soup!
Wonderful Year 1 Worship
Year 1 presented their worship this week on being friends. They talked about how we can make a Friendship Soup by adding lots of special friendship items. They spoke with confidence and shared a worship song that they have been learning. Well done Year 1.
Cross Country Event Tuesday 21st November
We are very excited to be taking part in the cross country event at Outwood Academy Ripon. All of our children from Year 2 to Year 6 will be participating in the festival. Please could children come to school on Tuesday in their outdoor PE kit and bring warm, waterproof clothing. They should bring their uniform to change into on their return to school in time for lunch.
Fairground Fun
As an end product for their STEM project, Year 6 have been building their fairground rides. They have had to use their knowledge of electricity, electrical control and pulleys to create a functional rotating fairground ride. This was not as easy as it looked. They had to constantly refer back to, and adapt, their original designs to ensure their product was functional as well as ensuring it was fit for one of our users. We have three users: Maggie, who has a fear of heights and a weak stomach; Little Billy who is a young child but needs to be able to see the zoo animals from the ride; and Jamie who is our teenage thrill-seeker. The children worked sensibly with the tools provided and some now fully understand the need to wear a protective glove on their helping hand. Great job, year 6. Maggie, Little Billy and James will be thrilled with your end results!
