Northwest High School Esports Teams Poised for State Playoffs
The Northwest High School Esports teams are gearing up for the state playoffs, which will take place in May. The Overwatch team is currently second in their division with only one loss on the season, while the Rocket League team is also second in their division with only one recorded loss.
The Overwatch team will compete in the first round of playoffs on May 6th, with the top 30 teams in the state competing online to qualify for the Lan (in person) event on May 13th, where the top 16 schools in the state will play in an all day tournament to decide who is the number 1 school in Overwatch. The May 16th game will be streamed by MIHSEF themselves but the May 6th playoff will be streamed and casted hopefully by some students from Northwest.
The Rocket League team will also compete in the first round of playoffs on May 6th, with the top 25 teams in the state competing online to qualify for the Lan (in person) event on May 13th, where the top 16 schools in the state will compete in an all day tournament to decide who is the number 1 school in Rocket League.
Both teams will have their last game of the season next week (April 18th and 19th) and then it's two weeks of preparation for playoffs!
“These guys have put in the work this season into being not just great players, but great teammates and people as well and I can't wait for us to turn some heads at the playoffs in a couple weeks!” said Joshua Wright, coach of both the Overwatch and Rocket League teams. If you see these students, wish them well in their upcoming competitions!
