Trustees Approve 3% Raise For All SISD Employees
SISD Trustees approved the 2024-2025 compensation plan for all SISD employees at Monday's board meeting.
Thanks to sound financial planning of SISD's Business Office, led by Chief Financial Officer Brenda McFalls, and a passionate Board of Trustees, all SISD employees will receive a 3% raise from midpoint this year.
Many school districts are facing financial hardships - from campus closures, enormous budget cuts and teacher shortages. SISD is blessed to have a supportive Board of Trustees and administrative teams who value employee needs and excellence in financial operations.
SISD Sees Growth in College and Career Readiness Measures
SISD presented its annual College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) report to the Board of Trustees on Monday. The Texas Education Agency measures the number of graduates who meet specific indicators of preparedness for CCMR annually.
Highlights of the presentation included:
- Preliminary data for the SHS Class of 2024 indicate that 97.3% of our students met the CCMR indicator.
- This is an increase of 12.6% from the previous year and is the highest level of achievement for our graduates since the inception of this accountability metric eight years ago.
- This achievement is a direct result of the hard work of our students, targeted support and instruction by our teachers and a supportive and positive environment at home provided by SHS parents.
SHS Students Gain Four Years of World Language Credit Through New Testing Option
Earlier this spring, SISD announced new course offerings that would enable students to gain advancement in languages through testing. As a result of these new board-approved offerings, students are now reaping the benefits.
Two students have earned four years of World Language credit by passing a test. At Monday's board meeting, Dr. Jake Duce briefed the board on the students' accomplishment.
About the program:
- Students are required to complete two years of World Language in order to earn a high school diploma in Texas.
- The SISD Board of Trustees recently approved a new option for our students to demonstrate their world language proficiency through an online and personalized exam. This program allows testing in over 45 different languages including Malayalam, Tamil, and Urdu, amongst others.
- Recently, SISD had two students take the exam to demonstrate their language proficiency in Spanish and Russian, respectively.
- These students performed so well that they will both be awarded four years of high school credit! Additionally, these students will earn acknowledgement and endorsement on their high school transcript as well as the opportunity to earn a certificate of biliteracy which can help them earn admission and/or scholarships when applying for college. This certificate can also help them when applying for jobs requiring bilingualism.
