New Assistant Principals at SHS
SISD Trustess Approve New Assistant Principals for SHS
Emily Cook and Matthew Hanson will join Dr. Ashlee Graham as part of the SHS administration team as assistant principals.
Emily Cook, SHS Assistant Principal
Emily Cook joins SHS after working in Mesquite ISD since 2015. She has experience working as a leader at a middle school campus and as an assistant principal at an elementary campus.
“When looking for a complement to the team, it was easy to pick Emily," Dr. Graham said. "Her energy, experience, expertise and excitement were all very evident. Her experiences with coaching teachers, cultivating culture, loving on students, and supporting the overall vision of a campus.”
Ms. Cook has experience collaborating with teachers and providing support for high-risk students.
“I’ve always lived in the area and I know Sunnyvale to be a special community,” Cook said. “It has maintained a small-town feel amongst the greater metroplex. The educational values of the community are reflected in the caliber of high-achieving students and the success of the school district as a whole. I look forward to working with staff to uphold the excellence of this district and seeing SISD students reach life-long success.”
Matthew Hanson, SHS Assistant Principal
Matthew Hanson is an experienced educator who joins the SHS administrative team. Most recently, he served Ford High School in Quinlan ISD as an Assistant Principal.
“We are so excited to bring on Matt Hanson," Dr. Graham said. "We can already tell that Matt is hard-working and willing to take on any challenge to support his team. In addition, he seems genuinely invested in instructional leadership, which will serve our campus well. Matt is family-oriented with a strong moral compass, which will be a great fit in our community.”
Mr.Hanson also worked in Greenville ISD’s STEM Academy at Crockett Elementary as the Dean of Instruction and as an Instructional Coach in Greenville ISD.
“As a former teacher and coach, and again later as an administrator in nearby districts, I always noticed and admired the exceptional way that Sunnyvale students carried themselves when competing and performing,” Hanson said. “Friendlier, more focused, full of confidence, and even appearing to walk a little taller than their peers. Through the connections that I have made with current and former SISD staff and families, I came to learn this reputation has been earned by setting high expectations and striving for excellence by every vested Raider in this tight-knit community. I have approached my own career this same way and am extremely proud to join in the team effort of making Sunnyvale ISD the shining example.”
