Maori Whakatauki & Macleans Values: Relating to Others
He hono tangata e kore e motu; ka pa he taura waka e motu
Unlike a canoe rope, a human bond cannot be severed.

Macleans Primary School Community
Hello Everyone
We have all enjoyed seeing heaps of parents around school the last few days: last week was the 'open afternoons' where the children showcased some aspects of their learning to parents in the classroom and today has been the second day of the learning conferences. Tomorrow is the third and final day of the learning conferences. Alongside the learning conferences has been the Macleans Learning Pathway discussions that show your child's progress in maths, reading and writing since the beginning of the year. We do hope that you have found this information invaluable towards supporting your child's learning.
We have also had a busy couple of weeks fundraising, both for the school with the PTA Cookie Dough the Breast Cancer Foundation with the Pink Ribbon Day. Thanks Macleans Primary School Community for getting behind these fundraisers; terrific example of the 'Learning to Live Together' aspect of the Macleans Values.
The Learning Conferences and Macleans Learning Pathways are also great examples of the Macleans Values in action, specifically the 'Learning to Learn' aspect of the Macleans Values.
On a final note, the hall is getting very close to completion now. We are working through the 'defect inspection' and beginning to move items into the hall. There will be a cultural blessing/karakia announced soon. Skids will be moving back into the hall soon.
Please enjoy this newsletter!

NZCER Teacher Workplace Survey
Hauora: Teacher Workplace Survey
What do the teachers at Macleans Primary School really think about their job and their working conditions? This question was one in which we wanted an answer so that we could continue to make Macleans Primary School a great school to teach at. Enjoying teaching, and being keen and enthusiastic means the children get the best teaching they can possible get!
We wanted to know what aspects of Macleans Primary culture and working conditions are teachers positive about, and which aspects could be strengthened. Using NZCER’s targeted workplace survey we have been able to find out. The survey measured 5 areas of a school:
- Physical working environment and resources
- Satisfaction with school
- School leadership
- Professional development
- School organisation
The results were mainly very positive, which affirmed and recognised much of what we do to support all teachers and learners. there are a couple of areas for us to continue to develop and 'make better' for everyone.

Un-Packing The Macleans Local Curriculum: Respect, Responsibility & Cooperation
Responsibility at Macleans Primary an important aspect of our Local Currouclum, thus it should be taught and practiced throughout Macleans Primary. We not only want to teach our students personal responsibility, but universal responsibility as well. We want to emphasize that it is not only our duty to be responsible for ourselves, but that as humans, we are responsible for the planet and we must consider how our lifestyle impacts the environment in which we live.
At Macleans Primary, we know that in order for someone to feel safe and secure, they have to feel respected. We not only recognise the importance of respect amongst a classroom community, but we want to teach the importance of greater respect not only for the human being, but for animals, plants, and our mother earth as a whole.
Cooperation at Macleans Primary is demonstrated by the ability to work effectively and respectfully with others or teams, make compromises, build consensus in decision-making, assume shared responsibility for collaborative work, and value the opinions and contributions of others.
