Can Tab Announcement!
Congratulations to House Tatonka on bringing in the most can tabs this last nine weeks. But an even BIGGER CONGRATULATIONS to EVERYONE at Kersey Creek for being named Ronald McDonald's School Pop Top Challenge winners!!
This year, we collected over 250 pounds of can tabs. Can we surpass 300 pounds next year?? Keep collecting over the summer.
A message from the Ronald McDonald House as many parents were wondering how else we could support their mission:
Our biggest need is individually packaged snacks. We've had folks put effort towards donating from and sharing our Amazon wishlist list among relatives and friends. Using the Amazon wishlist ships those donations directly to us.
MEALS
We recruit volunteers to provide lunch and dinner to our families each day. Here are the guidelines and directions for our Meal and Lunches with Love programs. Meal volunteers arrive between 4p and 5p to have dinner prepared by 6p, while lunch volunteers arrive between 8:30a and 9a to have sandwiches done by 10:30a (or arrive at 11a on Sundays). Currently, we allow up to 8 volunteers to cook in our kitchen, but groups report 5-6 works best due to space and volunteers must wear masks and gloves throughout the duration of the volunteer shift.
For all of our meal programs, volunteers purchase the ingredients. All food must be prepared here at the house, in a commercial kitchen, or purchased from a store. Please note that volunteers do not stay to serve the meal. We do get a lot of pasta with red sauce and tacos/enchiladas so if you have the capacity to mix it up, our families do appreciate the variety!

ACTIVITY/MEAL PACKS
If you are interested in doing something at a location of your choosing, an off-site activity may be a good option for you. Currently, we are in most need of Grab-n-Go bags, Family Meal Kits, and Toddler and School Age Activity Packs. For the meal kits, families particularly love the Herb & Butter Chicken with Rice and Chicken & Mushroom Pasta. Also, we've noticed with the grab-n-go bags that families are not super keen on the microwavable meal but LOVE the snacks. So if you all choose the grab-n-gos, consider omitting the microwavable meal at least for some and supplementing with additional snacks!
Donations can be dropped off any day between 9am and 9pm at the Ronald McDonald House (2330 Monument Ave).
From the Transportation Department
Dear Families,
I hope you are having a great week. I am writing today to share more information with you about transportation service for the 2024-25 school year.
While this school year is not yet over, our team is already planning for the upcoming school year and we need your help. To help us plan the most efficient routes possible while not restricting service, please carefully review the below options that apply to your family and follow the steps provided. All transportation service requests must be submitted by Friday, May 31. Please review the statements below, select the one that most closely aligns with your student’s situation, and follow the instructions provided.
My student currently receives transportation service and will need service next year.
- Log in to PowerSchool (review this document for more information on logging in).
- Visit your student’s PowerSchool page.
- Click on transportation on your student’s PowerSchool page (bus icon on the bottom left-hand side).
- If your student has a bus assignment in PowerSchool, they are considered pre-registered for transportation service for the 2024-25 school year and you do not need to do anything further. These students will be provided home-to-school-to-home services based on your current address. If you move over the summer, please update your information with your school and submit a transportation request via this form (Spanish).
- If your student does not have a bus assignment in PowerSchool, please complete this form (Spanish).

- You do not need to do anything further if this is your choice.
In addition to the above steps, please note the following:
- If your student currently receives transportation service to an after-school program or daycare facility, you must submit an Alternate Bus Stop Request via this form. These requests are reviewed annually. All requests for morning or evening changes must be for all five days of the school week. Additionally, please note that we can only accommodate an Alternate Bus Stop Request if there is space available on an existing bus route. A list of daycare facilities that the department provides transportation to can be obtained from your school.
- If you are submitting an Alternate Bus Stop Request for a student who will be a kindergartener, first grader, or second grader next year, you must complete this form and return it to your child’s home school.
- Families of students who have special education transportation identified in their IEP and require specialized transportation services must still reach out to their school to initiate the process of setting up Special Transportation Services.
- If your student attends a specialty program or specialty school such as Advance College Academy, the Health Sciences Specialty Center, or CodeRVA, you must submit a transportation request using this form (Spanish).
As a reminder, all transportation requests for next school year must be submitted by Friday, May 31. For more information about transportation services, please visit the transportation webpage on the HCPS website.

NEW NEXT YEAR! MORNING MASHUPS!!
As a part of our House System, we are excited about starting "Morning Mashups" next year to provide more opportunities for our students to use their creativity to engage in fun activities. This program will begin with 4th and 5th graders. We plan to expand to other grades throughout the year. If you are interested in sharing your talents, please complete this form. ParentSquare (The New Communications Platform for HCPS)
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, Hanover County Public Schools will use ParentSquare, a unified communications platform that is designed to keep families informed in a simple, accessible, and engaging way. The goal and benefit of this new system is to provide one centralized place for families to communicate with HCPS and our school. You will receive an activation email for your ParentSquare account over the summer. For more information, please visit the HCPS website.
