Franklin 411
Issue #25 - March 12, 2023
A Word From Mrs. Loor
I can't believe it, but we've sprang ahead and spring is just around the corner. The 2nd marking period ends this Wednesday, March 15th and report cards will be available to parents next Friday, March 24th.
Our 3rd grade will be going to Ellis Island on Wednesday. Please make sure you have read all communications from your homeroom teacher especially about arrival. Students need to arrive on time. Buses will be leaving promptly at 8 AM.
Although we still have a third of a school year left to go, planning for the next year starts early. In preparation for class placement meetings that will take place in April and May, I am reaching out to you now for your parent input. Please click HERE for more information about the class placement process and to fill out the optional parent input form. All responses need to be submitted by Friday, March 31st.
Tomorrow is a single session day and dismissal is at 12:30 PM.
For those who celebrated, Happy Holi and Happy Purim! And Happy St. Patrick's Day!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Counselor's Corner
We are at the tail end of our 3rd grade rotation of morning announcements. Our terrific volunteers educated the Franklin community last month about prominent black historical figures during Black History Month. They shared information about famous authors, athletes, scientists, musicians, and everything in between!
This month, they have taken on the task of engaging students and staff in the Franklin Women's History Month Fun Facts! Our announcers have been sharing interesting tidbits about the amazingly talented women that work here at Franklin. We have all enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about them each day.
A huge thank you to every 3rd grader that volunteered to be a reader, and for practicing so hard to make the announcements both informative and entertaining. A big shoutout to our Friday readers that got us up and moving with fantastic song choices like "We Will Rock You" and "YMCA." I am so so proud of each and every one of you!
Thank you so much! <3
Warmly,
Ms. Lea Audino MA, NCC

TEAM UP FOR HEALTHY EATING!
Did you know that Franklin Elementary School is a USDA Team Nutrition School? As a “team,” Franklin School is working towards healthier school nutrition and snacking.
Team Franklin needs your help! Please be mindful of the student snack choices that are sent in on a daily basis. Many students are bringing candy and other unhealthy snacks to be consumed both in the classroom and lunchroom.
Snacks of minimal nutritional value, those that are high in sugar and fat and those with empty calories (i.e. candy, cookies, gushers, chips, sugary drinks etc.) are all foods of minimal nutritional value, and are not in keeping with our District Nutrition Policy #8505.
In addition, many candies contain nuts, or are processed in a plant with nuts, and put students with nut allergies at risk for exposure.
Fruits and vegetables, low fat yogurts and cheeses, hummus, popcorn, low sugar snack bars, and whole grain crackers are great alternatives and help establish healthy eating habits.
For health-related questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Zanelli, our school nurse. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us. You can also visit the Summit Public Schools Virtual Health Office for additional information.
