We are the Junior Seahawks!
Important Dates:
Jan. 20 - NO SCHOOL - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Extra practice
- Listen to them read you a book they checked out from the library. This is help you see what books your child is interested in selecting and also hear their reading abilities.
- Have your child log into Clever and practice on Success Maker Math. Only 10-15 minutes a day is needed, but you can certainly do more.
- Give your child opportunities to write you a note. Ask them what they would like to add to the grocery list and have them write out the items, this will help with handwriting skills.
- When you go shopping, ask your child to round prices and/or do estimation of how much things would cost. Real life experiences and practice greatly enhance learning in the classroom!
We will be doing our Winter Assessments soon to see how much your child has grown in reading and math.
A word from our librarian:
During library, we have been discussing how we can grow as readers. One of the ways we can do this is by setting a reading goal. Many of our Kindergarten-2nd grade students are taking part in the library Winter Reading Challenge and setting a goal as a reader, and some of our 3rd-5th grade students are also setting reading resolutions or goals. We are celebrating progress towards or completion of goals on special bulletin boards in the library. Many of our 4th and 5th grade students are also participating in Global Reading Challenge, a battle of the books program for SPS students sponsored by the Seattle Public Library. Participating students are hard at work reading GRC books and will begin team practices next week, and our in-school challenge will take place on Thursday, February 6th at 1:00.
