Muskego Lakes Family Newsletter
April 5, 2023
Dear Muskego Lakes Families,
Our school is scheduled to take the Forward Exam the mornings of Tuesday, April 16 through Friday, April 19, and make-ups as needed the following week.
The Forward Exam assesses student performance in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics for students in Grades 3 through 8, in Science in Grades 4 and 8, and in Social Studies in Grades 4, 8, and 10. The Forward Exam is an online assessment, which utilizes multiple-choice and written responses to assess student knowledge. To minimize time out of class, during the testing window identified above, it is very important that your son or daughter be in school. We encourage avoiding making any appointments on these dates. Students not in school on testing days will be scheduled for a make-up test prior to the close of the testing window, which will result in them missing class.
The Forward Exam measures the knowledge and skills your student(s) should have acquired by the time they reach each grade level. Their performance on the assessment will not affect any of their current grades. Please encourage your son or daughter to take the test seriously and do the best they can. The results of these tests may be used to help school staff make determinations or placement in classes to best support your child(ren).
In addition, we are sharing a brochure from the state, which provides additional detailed information about the assessment including its purpose, what scores will be provided, and how the scores will be used.

Solar Eclipse on Monday
The Great Northern American Eclipse on April 8, 2024, is a rare and unique event that will take place during school hours. To ensure the safety of our students and staff, the Muskego-Norway School District has decided to have students remain indoors during the peak hours of the eclipse, which will be from noon until 3:00 PM. Students will not be allowed to go outside to view the eclipse.
For more information about the eclipse, you can follow this link: www.nasa.gov/nasalive
We understand that this might be disappointing for those who were looking forward to observing the eclipse outdoors. Our priority remains the safety of the students and by experiencing the eclipse digitally, we can ensure that everyone will be safe while watching the eclipse.

3:45-6:00 in the MLMS Gymnasium
UNIFORMS
Teams are encouraged to wear coordinating colors or team uniforms (i.e. green t-shirt). If your child is on a team and you need support in helping your child do that please reach out to the MLMS principals.
Uniforms must follow the school dress code.
Teams are encouraged to wear their uniforms to school on the day of the dodgeball tournament.
TEAMS
Teams are made of 8 players.
Bracket - Double Elimination
Players must be in good standing with school expectations (academically and behaviorally).
Play
6 minutes on the clock.
Get hit by a ball thrown by an opponent, you're out (the person, hair, or clothes all count).
Throw a ball and it is caught, the thrower is out.
Step over the midline, you are out.
Hit someone in the head, you're out.
*If you duck and get hit in the head, then you are out instead.
If you get out, go to the side of the gym by your ref. Make a line in the order that you got out.
Getting back into the game: If your team catches a ball, then the first person in line gets to come back into the game.
You may protect yourself with a ball as long as the deflected ball does not hit you.
Throw a ball you have within a reasonable amount of time (approximately 10 seconds or as directed by any referee)
You may leave the field of play to get a loose ball, but you must promptly return to the court.
A ball that hits the ceiling, wall, or floor is a dead ball.
If a ball hits a player and a player on the same team catches it before it hits the ground, the person who threw the ball is out and the original hit player is not out.
OPENING OF PLAY
All players start at the baseline of their court (1 or 2 feet on the baseline).
All dodgeballs start along the midline of the court.
Play begins upon the referee’s whistle.
WINNING THE GAME
The first team to eliminate all players of an opposing team is the winning team.
If time ends (6 minutes), the team with the most players remaining on the court is the winning team.
In case of a tie, a “Sudden Death” 1 minute round will occur.
Thank you for supporting this event put on by MLMS student council and athletic department! Entry is $2 per adult, $1 per student. Or bring in items to donate to our local food pantry and get your entry fee waived.
