Administrative Assertions
It is hard to believe that June is upon us! May has once again been a busy time in our school community and we would like to highlight some of the amazing things that have taken place. On May 7, ÉCCHS showed our appreciation for our regular route bus drivers. We are so thankful for all of our bus drivers who transport students safely to their destinations. We would also like to thank our teachers who also serve as bus drivers to transport our students to a variety of field trips and athletic events throughout the school year.
The Show ‘N Shine & BBQ was a resounding success. Thank you to our Student Council, Mrs. Robson, and Mr. Myck for organizing an awesome event for all of our students.
Our second annual Pow Wow was a great experience for our school. This event offered a wonderful learning experience for our students as they were able to view some aspects of traditional Indigenous culture by being treated to drumming and dancing. A special thank you to the Indigenous leaders of this event.
Sam Demma offered an engaging presentation to our students. The presentation served as a reminder of perspective by compelling us to recognize that we each have our own individual context that we are carrying every day. His message of stopping to empty our backpacks reminds of the importance of reflection. Our second annual Cultural Night had many representatives. Thank you to the students and their families who participated by sharing a little bit of their culture with our students.
Fare thee well, Grade 12’s! The Farewell event on May 24 was an excellent celebration. Congratulations to all Grade 12’s and their families! Parents, a special shout out to you for working together with our school to develop responsible, empathetic citizens. Thank you to Mrs. Sellin and Mrs. Hess for your many hours of hard work in organizing the Farewell. Thank you to all staff who assisted with tickets, ushering, cooking breakfast, breakfast entertainment, and ceremony clean up - there are many jobs and your help was greatly appreciated. Now, Grade 12’s, one more month of working hard on your learning in school so that you can springboard into a life of learning!
Grade 12’s, there will be an Adulting 101 Transition Fair in the West Gym on June 4 from 2:00 to 6:00. There will be information booths on filing taxes, setting up utilities, budgeting, and much more. P.S. Grade 12’s: remember to apply for Awards on the ÉCCHS website.
On June 7, the Mental Health Capacity Building team is hosting a staff vs student dodgeball game at lunch in the West Gym. It will be an energetic time with music and mental health videos.
It is that time of year when changes are announced. We would like to say farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Cole who are moving to teach in Nunavut. Thank you for leading the many drama productions over the years and for the excellent job in enhancing our drama program. Mrs. Cole, thank you for your tireless support of all students with a multitude of learning styles. Mr. Cole, thank you for your engaging approach to reinforcing the importance of writing skills and for fostering an appreciation of literature in our students.
We would like to welcome Mrs. Janine Lyons and Mr. Pete Jensen, who will both be teaching Humanities at our school next year. We would also like to welcome back Mr. Jordan Blackburn, who will be teaching Math/Science next year.
To all students, stay on course with your studies as June offers an opportunity for you to showcase your learning for the semester. Check the exam schedule and have a strong finish to your courses. We are proud of you for your growth this year - keep moving forward in your learning!
To all parents and families, if we do not see you in June, on behalf of ÉCCHS, have a super summer!

Celebrating Achievement: Grade 12 Students Shine Bright at our Farewell Ceremony
Amidst a sea of proud parents, beaming faculty, and a palpable sense of accomplishment, the Grade 12 Farewell ceremony marked the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and personal growth for the graduating class of École Camrose Composite High School.
As the next chapter of their lives starts, the ceremony took the time to reflect on the journey that brought our Grade 12s to this momentous occasion. From the nervous excitement of their first day of high school to upcoming bittersweet goodbyes exchanged in the hallways, every experience has left an indelible mark on their character and prepared them for the road ahead.
Throughout their time at the Comp, these graduates have not only excelled academically but have also demonstrated remarkable leadership, creativity, and compassion. Whether it was organizing charity drives, leading sports teams to victory, or spearheading initiatives for positive change in their community, these graduates have truly embodied the values of integrity, perseverance, and service.
Our valedictorian, Karishma Sainbhee, shared sentiments in a heartfelt speech that captured the essence of the graduating class's collective experience. "We have all grown so much and developed our own interests. It is so magical to see my peers growing up alongside me since elementary school, and how much we have changed as individuals. I encourage each one of you to be fierce, and to pursue your dreams, passions, and ambitions, and to live like there’s no tomorrow."
Amidst cheers, applause, and perhaps a few tears of joy, each graduate walked the stage, a symbol of their hard-earned success and a testament to their potential to make a difference in the world.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Your journey has just begun, and the world awaits your brilliance. Carpe Diem!
The Show
Students from the Comp have created monthly shows which highlight upcoming events. This link is a playlist of all the episodes of "The Show". A big thank you to all the students who worked on the creation of "The Show".
IMPORTANT LOCKER CLEAN OUT INFORMATION
Please be aware that school lockers and gym lockers must be cleaned out by the end of the day Wednesday, June 19th. This is so that the lockers can be cleaned and prepped again for next year. Any items remaining in lockers after Wednesday will be removed by staff and placed on tables as lost & found in the main foyer of the school and in the West Gym (for gym lockers). These items will remain there until June 27th. Any items remaining after June 27th will be donated or disposed of.
This message will be communicated to students in the morning announcements for the month of June. Please remind your student to empty their lockers by Wednesday, June 19th and to not leave anything they value in them.
Legal Studies Field Trip - May 8
What a full day of adventure. Our Legal Studies field included a bus ride up to the Edmonton Law Courts and the EPS Southwest Division Station. In the morning we saw the adjudication of two restraining orders, one related to trespassing on personal property between neighbors, and the other related to the protection of children. The judge then spent about 10 minutes answering student questions about court procedure and the cases that they had just heard.
After eating lunch at McDonald's, we then went to an Edmonton Police Station to hear a detective present on Human Trafficking. After the presentation students were able to have a tour of the processing centre and holding cells of those people who are incarcerated before they go to the Edmonton Remand Centre.
Some of the student reflections of the day are below:
What are two things that you learned on this field trip, about our legal system?
"I learned that it takes at least 10 years experience as a lawyer to become a judge. There are multiple larger divisions together packed into the building and a judge can see multiple small cases a day".
"That human trafficking is everywhere and that those ads on "special websites" are sometimes police generated images and are people doing it against their will".
What was your most exciting experience (or highlight) on the trip?
"The restraining order case where the lady kept interrupting the judge. While the judge just JUDGED them (HAHAH). Also, the whole thing with bowing to the courts. It was super cool to see the respect shown to the judge."
"Seeing the law courts and how huge of a building it was and all the fascinating court cases that were going on that day and being in an actual courtroom".
Did anything surprise you on the field trip?
"That not all court cases are murder trials or horrendous things, rather being menial such as restraining orders or simple cases such as divorce or custody battles".
"The whole entire human trafficking presentation surprised me and made me way more aware of how it happens and what people can go through".
"I was surprised that they were so nice to me when I set off the metal detector".
Other Comments:
"I had a lot of fun seeing how court cases work and how we got to experience a lot of new things such as human trafficking, theft, restraining orders and much more."
"It was fun to see everything and learn how the legal system works, the courtroom rules, etc, thank you for the experience."
"A thrilling yet sad experience through our justice system."

ÉCCHS Athletics - June
Football
Our spring football was also in full swing in May. We had over 30 athletes come out for the two weeks of practices. That’s a great number leading into next year's football season where we will be going back to 12 man football. Spring football culminated with a jamboree in Sherwood Park on May 31 where our Trojans played top teams from around the capital region.
Tennis and grade 9 Golf
Spring is definitely here when the tennis racquets and golf clubs come out. Our high school tennis team will compete at the annual central zone tennis tournament in Red Deer on June 4th. The team has always had good success and this year should be no different.
The last athletic event for our grade 9’s is their regional golf tournament hosted in Tofield on June 10. We’re sending 7 excited grade 9 golfers
Track and Field
Our track and field season is short but intense. It starts at the end of April and culminates with the provincial championship the first weekend in June (June 7 and 8). Our track team is also our largest team at the school with 55 athletes competing at our first meet. By the time we get to zones we’ve lost a few of our athletes through our two qualifying meets, we were still able to send 34 athletes to zones in Red Deer. The team had a pretty good day at zones. We qualified 17 athletes to go to provincials, of those athletes 7 of them will be competing in individual events along with the relays. We also had some of our athletes qualify for provincials as the zone champion, including, Kyra Fedoretz in the junior girls high jump, Alex Ivashchenko in both the intermediate boys 100m and 200m dash and Dawson Ferguson in the intermediate boys 1500m. We were once again the top 3A school at zones.
Our grade 9 track team also had really good results at their divisional track meet qualifying 15 athletes for their regional meet on the first Tuesday of June.
Athletic Celebration
The last event on our athletic calendar is our year end celebration. This year it is on June 13th, starting at 3:45 pm in our Trojan Zone. We will be handing out team awards as well as major hardware including our grade 9 and high school athletes of the year. Parents are welcome to attend.
School Parent Council
It's hard to believe another school year has come and gone; it seems like school just started! We have had a busy year and I want to extend a warm thank you to all of the parents for their participation in the school and council in whatever capacity they could commit to this year.
- Our last School (Parent) Council Meeting: Wednesday, June 5 at 7:00 pm in the Library. If you are a parent of an incoming Grade 9 student, please join us as well.
