Vikings Take 3 of 4 from Jarrell
7A
The Lady Vikings stomped out some tough Jarrell Cougars Thursday night. The rematch proved to be a tough matchup with the Jarrell Cougars pressing hard on defense however our Lady Vikings do what they do best, fight through and grind. Our offense and defense was matched up well against a quick Cougars team. Leading the charge on defense was Danni Tristan, Sofia McKinnon, Eva Navarro and Scarlett Wright shutting down their offense and providing amazing passing into the key. All three of these ladies absolutely created havoc on the court for the Cougars with pressure and composure. Banging in baskets and keeping our scoring alive from all spots on the court was Ashlynn Evans, Bennett Buster, Sienna Todd and Lillian Kamenzind. Creating their own shot off of rebounds and put backs gave us the separation we needed going into the half, leading 19-5. Keeping the Jarrell Cougars from breaking into the paint with easy baskets again was led by our bigs, Sadie Peake and Autumn Clements. A solid replication of the twin towers from the old Spurs days, these two ladies racked up numerous blocks and brought down both offensive and defensive rebounds! Our ladies put down another “W” in the books with a 27-14 victory, great job 7A!

The girls hosted the Lady Cougars from Jarrell again this Thursday night in what promised to be another exciting basketball game. Last time around the Lady Vikings got the best of the Cougars and they were out for payback. The Lady Cougars jumped out to an early lead behind some hot shooting managing a 10 pt lead by halftime of 23-12. The Lady Vikings would not be deterred however, clawing their way back in the second half behind a persistent trapping defensive effort. Combinations of Kinsley Boyd, Te’a Turner, and Lila Rodriguez applying great ball pressure at the top leading to great traps being set by Aislin Munoz, Brinkley Gold, and Lauren Carpenter. Our “Ball Hawk” position was free to hunt their passes and many steals were made by Lilah Culbreth, Peyton Christensen, and others filling that role. Emma Luow and Stella Granger were great at stopping the break from the safety position, when the Cougars did beat the press, denying easy looks and allowing the rest of the Vikings to recover and defend. The Lady Vikings kept getting closer and closer and late in the 4th quarter they would tie the game and eventually take the lead on a couple of huge 3 pointers from Te’a Turner. Leading 39-36 with under a minute to play the girls would survive a couple of last second scoring attempts from the Cougars and cling to an exhilarating come from behind 39-38 win. Outstanding efforts were made by the whole team in this comeback win as the girls never gave up, kept grinding and found a way to win. Very proud of these young ladies!

Both teams entered the game with a 1-0 record in district play, making the stakes high. The game was an intense back-and-forth battle, but the Vikings emerged victorious, winning by four points.
The final 30 seconds were crucial, with Kooper Kuderna stepping up on defense to take a key charge, and Gavin Jordan grabbing an important rebound to help seal the win. On the offensive side, Kooper Kuderna and Alex Ocampo were the leading scorers, contributing heavily to the team's success.

8th Grade
The 8th grade A team played a very athletic and skilled Burnet team that was district runner-up last year. Early on in the game, both teams played great defense and kept the score at 7-5 after the first quarter. Things opened up a bit with Easton Rice scoring 10 of his 13 points in the first half and at halftime the Vikings were up 17-13. In the second half, the Bulldogs pulled out a full court press, but Lago was able to get past that and keep control. Ayden Chaffin put up 7 of his 11 points in the second half to help stretch the lead. Jayden Vargas and Cole Schroeder also contributed to the scoring, each scoring a 3-pointer. The Bulldogs made one past push in the 4th quarter to make it close, but Kaden Hodd went 4 for 4 from the Free Throw line at the end to secure the victory. Final score - Vikings 45, Burnet 39. This win brings the 8th grade A team to 2-0! Next game is Monday night at home vs. Gateway.

Strive for 5!
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.

Vaping = DAEP
HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.
Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!
